Heavy FR drop since new version
« on: March 22, 2008, 11:21:52 PM »
Has anyone else been experiencing heavy drops in frame rate drop since the update?

Ever since the new version, my Short, Medium and Long Views are more or less ok as they were before, but the moment I switch the Ground View my FR plummets SIGNIFICANTLY. I'm also seeing substantial FR loss in the film viewer as well.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

OK now I think we've found the problem.

I have a feeling the people who are suffering the biggest performance hits are using very large resolutions (possibly widescreen resolutions) such as 1600X1024.

Now, being that most of the performance problems are when flying close to the ground, I have a feeling the biggest difference in this game causing this problem might be the same fix that repaired the "GVs shooting through trees bug".. maybe the engine is rendering more trees than before.

Perhaps it's possible to recode the game to eliminate this one specific change when in an airplane?  <Shrug>

I'm using 1024x768. It was definetly the trees with the new ground vis range in effect. By reducing that slider (or being in the air so the "bubble" of drawn objects shrank) my frame rate pounced. Canging my FSAA settings from 4x to 2xQ showed no change (I can't stand the raggedness of 0x).

I get FR drops but they are static...once in a while my comp will lag out completely, going to 27 frames, 14, 7, 5, and the screen freezes a bunch along the way, but 10 seconds later I'm back at 70...

my FR is overall lower (but thats more to do with my res change to 1680x1050 :D) but for the 2 days i still had my old monitor i did notice that Hit Sprites caused massive pauses errrr a few micro seconds i suppose, but enough to throw of my aim....

Something aint right there.

Rebuilt cache
Defragged HDD
lowered settings alittle (FSAAx4 down to FSAAx2 due to res change)

Same exact thing for me.  However for me, despite drawing those sliders all the way back, I have the bubble or no trees still.

I have to constantly change from Ground Vis to High Vis anytime GVs are near.

same. only in whirblewind, from 60fps, to 10-20.. Was thinkin maybe it's the massive amount of bullets flying, but then a P47, B25H, etc. doesn't do it..
