Ouch. Stopped behind another car waiting on a bus to turn into a neighborhood. I look up in the rearview and see a white blur and hear tires squealing. He hit me doing 40+. I hit the car in front of me, and careened into the ditch. The airbag sent my glasses to the rear of the SUV. My dog boucned off the windshield. Then I saw smoke, didn't know wtf it was, couldn't open my door, and went scrambling out the passenger window with the dog in tow. Just cuts & bruises for me. My dog broke his leg and has surgery tommorrow (he'll be fine thankfully. I care more about my dog than the SUV).
The guy that hit me... illegal immigrant. No license, no insurance.
He tried to run off, but the police response time was < 2 minutes. He's in jail now.
The car that I was pushed into was a rental car. The girl had been in an accident 4 days before. She was fine, and her car is fixable.
My 4Runner is totalled. You can't see the extent of the damage in the pics (camera died), but the frame is bent. The tow hitch was bent 90 degrees downwards. None of the doors will open or close without a lot of brute force. Hood is creased, fenders trashed, roof is bent, quarterpanels are bent, windshield broken, airbags deployed, frame pieces sticking out of the front valance, and god knows what engine damage.
Good news is that my insurance has both rental car & uninsured driver coverage. The 4Runner was paid off, so the settlement will be the downpayment for something new.
