No more likely cause its NOT a Harley.
My gal....Only a fuel pump gone out in 8 years.Ask a harley to do that.
(Image removed from quote.)

Why would a bike NEED a fuel pump? ---Notice location of gas tank vs location of engine :D Mine has worked fine without one for 46 years

bergy,

No apology needed, bro.  You didn't come off to me as knocking anything

I was just stating my view as a HD enthusiast.

As for loud pipes, I agree with you 100%.  Harleys are the largest percentage of the loud pipe community.  Why?  Because they sound so good.  Even a deaf man can feel the rumble of a properly tuned Harley.  If you don't get a rise out of the "potato potato potato" sound, you need to see a doctor.  Admit it, when you go to a drag strip and hear the sound of those open-headers on a big block, your heart races and your palms get sweaty.  What about airplanes?  Ever stand feet from a P&W radial engine at runup? (bring a change of underwear) Same way with a nice set of pipes on a HD.

Some folks are just redneck with them though, like screaming through a housing area at 2am which is a great way to inspire legislation to get the sound I love banned.  I ride as respectfully as possible near housing areas.  I do not buy into the "loud pipes save lives" theory completely, but to some degree it is true.  The simple fact that you have noticed most loud bikes as Harleys tells me that the bike got your attention.  Good.  That means you see it.  That means that rider has a lesser chance of getting merged into or rear-ended by you.

Don't get me started on losing off-roading areas.  I sold my '03 Jeep Wrangler and my '87 Jeep Cherokee (both lifted).  We have nowhere to ride anymore around here.  The main reason was people mowing down trees, digging up the land and littering.  Just being plain stupid.  The noise offenders here?  Trucks with straight pipes....100 times louder than a HD with drag pipes.

Just got back from the Yamaha dealer. That 1300 V Star is a nice looking bike. Gotta wait until Sat to look at the Honda's and Kawasaki's. Then some test drives. Anticipation is sweet.  :)

Bj.. that is my point..  your bike is the exact same bike that the japs made fun of for decades.. now.. they are making really poor copies of it but.. they are reliable and easy to ride and maintain copies.. You didn't see women on panheads.

now.. the frailest woman can be a biker.   I am not sure that is a step forward. It is not something I wish to be a part of.

Hey Roundeyes, Don't get me started on the diesels with big open exhaust, LOL.

I too love the sound of a well tuned Harley, and it is truely music, but like anything, there is a limit to how loud it really needs to be. IMHO some of the best sounding street Harleys I have heard, have had a muffler on them. I am not asking for some huge hiddious can hanging of the side of your pride and joy, just a moddest little thing to take the edge off. ( Doesn't S&S make set that looks like straight pipes, but has a glass pack inside?)

Personally, I see a motorcycle first when I am driving my cage. I am a bike rider too, as you know we see traffic different from the rest of the world, so in the aspect of hearing the bike before seeing the bike, I have seen the rider long before I hear them.

Thank you for not flaming me also, I appreciate that. :salute

My ride has straight pipes with baffles in them. If I want to be loud, I can be;If I want to be quiet, I can be. I guess it depends on your personal preference. Right now I run Python III's, they're shotgun style but are chambered to be more like a 2 into 1 pipe.

bj229r nice ride man.

I will post a picture of my ride if I can figure out how to work Photobucket.....

swoop.. against the woman?  nothing.. against women on bikes?   different story.   Have you ever seen what womens skin looks like after a bad bike wreck?  I have.   the scars are bad enough on us.   I have had to explain mine enough times and some people are really put off by em.   They are just sad to me when they are on women.

back when..  you had to kick the bike over to start it.   If you were too drunk.. you couldn't do it.   stone sober.. women couldn't... and didn't want to.. do it.

seems sensible that a gender so concerned about their looks.. so dependent on them.. should stay off of bikes.

That goes for metrosexuals too.

Yup and BSAs were a bigger pain in the butt than hogs. Didn't have to worry about changing the oil for one was always topping up.

Why not a Linkert carb?  The Linkert on one of my Brothers' 1947 Indian Chief works great.  He rides it to work (40 mi round trip) on a regular basis.  No starting worries from the carb.
