Torpedo 8 AAR
« on: June 09, 2001, 04:20:00 PM »
Saturday's Snapshot event, Torpedo 8, was well attended by over 40 people.

In frame one, the USN forces led by Ripsnort attacked and sank the IJN CV Kaga.

Due to popular demand, we held a second frame. In frame two, the IJN forces led by AKHog thwarted the American attack, losing only the destroyer Hatsukaze.

Thanks to all who attended, and especially to AKHog and Ripsnort for volunterring to be CO's.

Speaking of Friday Nights Event...here is the AAR.

The Galiant forces of the IJN rose to meet the Yankee Dogs of the USN....oops..wrong forum   :o

Actually Friday Nights Torpedo 8 was alot of fun to host and it looked like the participants had fun too.

Rip lead the TBM's for the USN.

A lone PBY sent a garbled message regarding spotting a large Japanese fleet and the USN planes launched immediately with only a vague idea of where the fleet might be (no dar).

The first long range Fighter Scout to sight the Fleet was CP and he immediately radioed the coordinates to the rest of the planes.

The IJN Zekes had spread out a little to cover as much ocean as they could and so scrambled to back towards the fleet and to where the sightings of a massive formation of TBM's had been reported.

The race was on to see who would get to their targets first.

It was the TBM's of Torpedo 8 squadron that won the race.  All TBM's got their fish away and the telltale wakes of TNT moving at high speed could be seen drawing a bead on the IJN Fleet.

Most of the fish missed the mark, but in that first attack run a destroyer was sunk.

The TBM's did pay a heavy price for making to the release point as the fleet aaa and the zekes started taking their toll.  And just when the forces of the IJN thought they had stemmed the tide, and second wave of TBM's launched their fish and scored a mortal wound on the Akagi!

Thus it was a Yankee Dog...errr American Victory, but a costly one and most of Torpedo 8 was wiped out.
