Auto Heading Enable
« on: April 16, 2008, 12:30:50 PM »
I don't know if this is a normal fuction or a bug but if you enable auto heading in a vehicle or boat and then man you machine gun or turret why doesn't the vehicle stay on course as you swing around to fire. If this is a normal function then I would like to see the auto heading enable function to keep the couse you set when you enabled it. If this is a bug then I'am posting in the wrong spot.  :salute

I've never been able to figure out what, if anything, Auto Heading actually does. It doesn't seem to have any effect on anything.

It could be that you are twisting your stick (i.e. rudder input) which turns off the auto-heading and gives control back to your controllers.

No I've had this happen to me too. Auto heading takes a heading and then keeps you on that heading regardless of hills trees and what not. But I've had the same problem with it just doing it's own thing without me inputing anything.

It does hole "course" not "heading". So if you are on an incline, it will turn uphill so you keep going straight across the hillside. At least thats what I think anyway. :aok

Hold heading will keep you travelling in the direction you are pointed in for the most part.  It works very well on flat terrain, but is not 100% foolprooof on side hills although it's better than having it off.

Hitting small hills at an angle, it will cause you to turn slightly to the downhill side, but will correct itself immediately once it's off the hill.

Once enabled, there is no need to touch it again during that mission.  It doesn't turn off while controlling the vehicle mannually.

When in a gun position, it continues to work but any rudder action while turning the gun will also turn the vehicle.  This is particularily difficult to avoid with twisty sticks.

Hope that helps.  I use it all the time.
