Vista & Audigy Issues?
« on: April 16, 2008, 10:43:18 PM »
Greetings,
hate to post again but alas - I have yet ANOTHER issue.

Apparently this is a big embarrassment to Creative as their drivers for the Audigy 2 series have been dumbed down in order to work properly.  Almost 75% of the cards ability has been disabled.  There is a guy who is rewriting the drivers and of course you can read the saga about this.

The problem:
After installing the drivers for vista from creative's website - I can not hear voices in chat?  I've tried everything.
Finally I went into one of the many different avenues to adjust your sound settings in vista - which apparently aren't attached to each other for one reason or another, and noticed that I have no sounds coming from my center or right channels.

I attempted to remove the creative drivers and add this guy from the creative website forums' drivers, and this seemed to work.  All the speakers tested fine however in game - same result.

I have to dumb down my config to a 2 speaker system in order to hear people.

The first time I launched Aces High 2 after this update, I crashed.
Immediately after applying these new patches , my first attempt ended in a blue screen with IRQ issues. I did get them to run the second time.

I'm not sure if any help could occur in these forums, but I figured I would at least post this so that others with this issue would be able to realize this is a problem with Creative and probably not Aces High2.  I was able to load other mainstream games and play/test them without issue however.

Sigh - creative, amd(dual core issue), and microsoft vista on my sh**  list now. :(

Hate being a goober and replying to my own post, but...if anyone wants to read about this soap opera you can do so here:
http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board?board.id=Vista

It's obviously not just my board but several creative boards having this issue apparently.

Note the 'goodbye' letter by the head programmer on this alternate driver set.  He is being threatened by creative for basically fixing their ineptitude and obviously can't help those of us whos problems are not fixed entirely.

Sigh...what a said state in computers this tis.

I've read that there are a lot of problems, not only with Audigy but with the X-Fi card drivers and Vista as well.  It's hard to know where to place the blame, but I'd lean toward Vista.

I'm running an X-Fi card in Win XP and have no issues whatsoever.

Well I'm working on some things.
I can tell you that I have had positive results with reinitializing my onboard sound, installing the drivers downloaded from mars at 5kb, then disabling the sound card in device manager.  I've been reading alot on what disabling something and releasing the 'token' for IRQ's does ....long ago in windows 95 to today with vista ultimate sp1.
I am able to hear sounds out of all of my speakers flawlessly.  The big test is aces high 2 soon.
I am probably going to download some of the unlocks that danille K developed on creative's site.  Good guy, if it works well I will surely donate.  Poor guy has gotten nothing but pie in his face for countless hours tapping the resources of his rather large brain to say the least.

I'm hoping he at least gets a few job interviews out of the deal.  I'm sure many here probably think writing drivers is no big deal once you learn how to do it, but there are so many ways to address hardware that it will make you sick.  Stack that on top of different platforms and you might as well call yourself Dr.

No go.  Nothing is working.
I get it to work for a bit, the karaoke effect (all sounds but vox) kicks back in or, I blue screen.

Dunno what to do.  Probably going back to winxp.  Wow this sucks.

LOL OOZ!

I was going to make a flash animation about vista, with little cartoons with devs from start to finish to bill releasing it at a launch event in CA....alas I just don't have the time to do things like that anymore.

At the end , bill was going to click the start button, switch to classic mode, and instead of Windows Vista written along the side it was going to say:

All your base are belong to us!  (and for those that know what I'm talking about, it would have been really funny)

Maybe this summer when I get rained out from golf some day hehe.
