With no base capture and no objectives what are we supposed to do?  Fly around in a glorified DA again?  We had a blast last night trying to take bases and we had some very intense battles with the Axis defense; sounds like nobody has any reason to defend anything now.  I'm afraid the arena will be back to an echo in no time with out bases captures.

Objectives for both sides - Kill as many red guys as you can.

Hopefully it will be back to its old self so we can have good fights.

From another post, it would allow base capture and raids but get rid of the overall war and resets which are meaningless because of numbers imbalances and off-hour play.  Here is the idea ...

So how do we get more of the early part of the war and far less of the late part?  Reset the map every night so everynight is like the early war.  It would break it down into nightly combats.  We could keep base capture then as some like the Jabo raids.  We could switch sides each night as it won't matter the next day, the maps are reset.  Alternatively, the staff could arrange a different base layout everynight on the same map rather than just resetting.  This would allow us to fight over different parts of the map on different days.  It would not have to be every night if staff is not avaiable but everyone should expect the maps to reset at any time off peak hours (peak hours defined as Eurpopean or US peak hours of play).

I think it would be easy enough to try and would allow base captures for squads that enjoy that.  It will also encourage some ground combat which is a nice mix once in awhile.  Just a thought.

Lutrel,

I know this next setup may not be your cup of tea. I'd like to see you guys stay on through the setups that have no base capture or no clear victory objectives. The AVA staff is working to find the best fit for the AVA communities divided tastes. I'd like to see the day when there is a perfect formula the staff can come up with to please everybody. I doubt that can happen but they're trying the best they can. If nothing else changing the format every few weeks may be their only option. I know this means a lot of guys get pissed, take their toys and leave. I'm thinking you guys are better than that. The best solution would be if we all just gut up and fly the setups we don't like to support the arena, and then enjoy the ones we do like. Change is constant in the AVA, and the next war is already planned and being ironed out. This is a good chance to work on air to air skills. If you want to do raids, it's a good time to run your missions and measure your succes on getting in and hitting the target. Base capture was not the historic measuring deivce for raids anyway.

How about shut off base capture at off peak hours. Maybe no base capture except between 6 and 11 PM EST.

I believe Venom is on to something here with the map rest every night, or at least every other night, until the next war begins.  This would prevent the porking of the map and at the same time allow the same type of fighting we enjoyed last night.  We had sea battles, base captures, and GV battles; it was a great time for all involved.

That sounds like it would solve the problem    :pray

All it would do is enable the milkrunners to run in the off hours. I don't see how this would solve any percieved problems. It would just create more, one example is the staff would have to reset everything twice a day. Another would be all the enjoyable milkrunhodweeb threads. There are no problems to this setup, it's a classic AVA style setup. If there is a problem it's that some people expect to have everything their way every setup every day. I'll never understand how people can take this great sim, and do nothing but find things to complain about.

I believe hardness was upped to keep the fleets from all being sunk all at once when steamed right up to the shoreline by intrepid would-be invasion oriented Allied admirals. The four seperate fleets I steamed that direction for you, arai, stopped well short of 19 but provided you with plenty of targets to practice bombing. I saw the dedication you had in going after Charlie Five yesterday morning and after enjoying our encounters (<salute> each time) I supposed you actually wanted them closer to 19 than far away to facilitate sinking them. Without me online and with respawns of the fleets an inevitability it seemed a rather nice gesture on my part to leave you with a target rich enviroment when I logged. Our 1v1 time in the arena was some of the most enjoyable moments of AHII for me. Thanks for your dedication in all the various aircraft you flew then.  :salute
