True Widescreen Support

I wish we would get true native support for Widescreen monitors.

AH already uses a 90-degree POV. Direct X can't go past what AH is already using without things looking fisheye and distorted. AH cannot get any wider. Thus, any widescreen settings crop out, rather than add on. It's a directX limitation.

Hmmm..strange to hear that DirectX 9.0c or DirectX 10/10.1 don't support Widescreen monitors or resolutions, considering how games like Bioshock, Crysis, Tabula Rasa, WoW, EQ2, CoD4, F.E.A.R, Stalker all have direct Widescreen Monitor support through DirectX and DirectX itself supports widescreen monitor resolutions.  Do you have a link on this limitation?  I know DirectX9 has issues with high resolution, which is why you can't run AA with any lighting effects but that's been fixed in DX10.

It's a shame if they don't intend to add support.  In all planes I fly, most bottom portion of the flight instruments are not visable.

It's not that it doesn't support "X" resolution...

It's the angle of view IN that resolution. Those other games don't use 90-degrees by default. They use narrow FOV, and when they turn on "widescreen" they get more.

AH already uses as much FOV as it possibly can, because it's some attempt to include peripheral vision or something like that.

Indeed, every new aircraft model has the bottom third of the instrument panel cut off for me.

I'm not sure that's right.  I'm pretty sure I've got racing games that offer 120 degree views with DX9.  I'll have to check that out when I get home.

I force my widescreen  monitor to 4:3 aspect ratio (normal) by turning off scaleing in the card set-up then setting resolution to native (1600x1050 for me on a 22" widescreen).  I then set the game resolution in video set-up to 1280x1024 and I get the full AH screen windowed in the center of my monitor at about the size of a normal 21" CRT or 19" LCD. 

I think it works great (no cropping) and anywhere other than AH, I get the full use of my monitor.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

Save up for a trackir. That way you can move our head around. Mine is on the way.

Yeah, think I will have to finally go the TrackIR route.  I'll just need to figure out how to hook up the hat clips to this:



It's a WW2 reproduction of the Type A-8 flying helmet used by the Army Air Corps that I ordered and was planning on hooking up earphones and a mic to.  I know, I'm a geek and a nerd.

Agree with better support for widescreen, since more and more monitors are going that route.

If you notice, the bottom portion is cut off.  Even if you zoom all the way out, pretty much all bottom portion of the instrument panels will be cut off.  Some more so than other planes.
