Every time a muslim nation has gone after Israel, they've had their butts handed to them. I don't see that changing anytime soon. Of all the countries over in that part of the world Israel is the only one with a first rate military.
Many people want to claim that they are only effective because the US supplies them with most of their military hardware, but even that's not totaly correct. Most small arms they use they manufacture themselves, and they buy plenty of equipment from Eruopean sources as well. What they do better than all the other countries in the region is train their people to be proficient with the equipment they have, and their people are dedicated to learning how to use that equipment properly and effectively.
Iran's military is as big a joke as Iraq's was. Those two countries fought a war that lasted what...8 years or so? Neither side could get anything done. We kicked Iraq's butt twice, looking at the downside of better than 4-1 odds both times. Iran wouldn't be a problem for us anymore than it would be for Israel.
All those muslim countries like to talk a big game but when it comes down to it, they don't stand a snowballs chance in hell in conventional battle and they know it. If Iran popped a nuke off at Israel, Iran would be a smoking hole in the ground 24 hours later.
