3 of us (azureR, goat10 & Myself) rose into a clear moonlight sky. With no cloud cover this was going to be a tense night. We expected the other Lancaster Squadrons would have it bad too. The night was ideal for bombing with not a cloud to be seen but also it would favour the Hun night fighters should we be spotted enroute to the target. We kept a very tight formation. If any hun fighters found us they were going to be hit with a hail of hot lead.
We climbed steadily and reached 20K around 20 miles short of the target. We decided to attack the HQ from the West so we swung South West until level with the target and then turned East and lined up for the drop.
The target had already been hit by several previous passes by other squadrons and I am pleased to report that this final wave did the trick.
We headed for home A Gentle descent all the way and a good tailwind meant that our mission was a complete success.
All of our Squad RTB'd successfully and we got home just as the sun was creeping over the horizon for another lovely day in good old blighty.
