Mighty 8th vs Luftwaffe

Tonight's TOD 'mini-scenario' prompted some talk amongst The Wrecking Crew about doing this again.

Sunday, Feb. 20.  1600hrs(2100Z)  (4pm EST)
Mighty 8th: Rooks (led by TWC)
B-17s and P-51Ds
Luftwaffe:  Knights
Bf109s and Fw190s

The rules of this are simple.  The 8th will attempt a massive strategic raid on the Knight infrastructure.  The Luftwaffe will attemp to stop us.  This will be a historic-type match up, open to everyone.  Hopefully the chosen time will let most people join in.
The rules are simple.  You have 1 life for this event.  If you go down but bail successfully, you can grab another plane and try again.  If you die (exploded in your plane, open chute too late, get strafed in your chute etc) you're out.
The bombers will be flying at an atltitude between 18,000 and 25,000ft (only the 8th will know for sure =)

So, who all is interested, and is there anyone willing to head up the Luftwaffe?

=)

Got to make sure the numbers are right though. The "8th" will need twice to three times the number of pilots than there are "LW".

Bit of a debrief from last night.
From mightys post in general discussion it seems that the first half of the LW force was more than enough for the bombers.
Force break down. (estimated)
Good guys
  B17           10
  P51           6

Bad guys
  Group one
  109           12-20?
  Group two
  190           13

Please correct these numbers if you can. I was in sturm group 2 and never saw the enemy before they were gone
It is not supprising with the pilots in this game that the bombers faced by supperior numbers where wiped out.
The escorts must have parity with the interceptors. The bombers must out number them.
Notes
Interceptors must stay out of bomber land. no contact befor the mountains.
No shadowing them from their take of points.

To give a good fight the ratio should probably be
40 players
 24 bombers
 6 escorts
 10 interceptors

Then the bombers can fly at historical alt
(25k) and try to fight there way through

If I am correct then the Wrecking Crew force should have joined the bombers last night. We did not I think because
1. We didnt know there were so few bombers
2. We would have been stuck in knight land for 12 hours..

The 12 hour thing is fine for most situations in this case could HTC set it to an hour on scenario night and then set it back after the scenario?

Had our group joined the knights last night it would have been a much more satisfying mission for all.
There must be a LW commander that has talked with the organiser befor hand and knows the restrictions on the interceptors...
1) Stay out of bomber land...no intercepts befor the mountains. Not even recon...

We will not know numbers befor the mission so it is important for the two comanders to coordinate right befor the mission to juggle numbers.
Good first effort for a historical mission. Just way lopsided against the bombers..Good effort Knights

Westy, thanks.  I edited the post and fixed the date.

Pongo, I'm thinking along the lines of something similar to a massive strike organized by Rojo(aka: Sabre) 2-3 months ago.  That one was a lot of fun.

Whoever is willing to head up the Luftwaffe group please email me.  Who knows, maybe we can get everyone in the arena in on this.  And wouldna that be grand? =)

I agree with Pongo's analysis.

I asked for the switch time to be reduced when HT was in the arena, but he must not have heard me.

As far as switching sides for 12 hours keeping you from helping out... hmmm. Sorry to hear that country loyalty overrides HA scenarios. Not a swipe at you, but that will limit a lot of fun for all.

On the plus side, it seems as though the bulk of the people online were involved in the Scenario. WTG!

I find it highly curious that someone who flies for the "Mighty 8th" is usually found sitting in a 205, Spit or 109, rather than the 8th USAAF's rides.

What's the beef CavemanJ?

Oh... Yeah, I could be persuaded to fly Luft or Allied.  Die as fast in both anyway.

Thanks 214CaveJ.  I only wanted to be sure as I do mark all these events down but I never post I'll make one because.. I never know if I can. This is iffy due to a birthday party.  But I'll try!
