Early-model bombers
« on: May 27, 2008, 12:33:24 PM »
The thread about the next FSO campaign, Guadalcanal, got me thinking again about the gap in the bomber set. The He-111 and G4M (the G3M would be a worthwhile addition, as well) are two notable planes missing that cover a significant gap in their respective nations' plane set, but also early models of the Allied heavy bombers.

The B-17G is too heavily armed, and thus unsuitable for almost any setup earlier than late-1943/early 1944. A B-17F would be far more appropriate for most of 1943, and the earlier B-17Ds and Es for the 1941-42 period, especially in Pacific Theater setups in scenarios/FSO/etc. The B-24 we have is also a later model, and not suitable for early war.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Dont forget the B-18, even though it wasn't a good bomber, they still used it in WW2 early war settings.  :aok
