F4U-4 wep sound
« on: June 04, 2008, 02:10:37 AM »
I did a search and didn't see anything about this. When I engage the WEP on the F4U's the engine sound doesn't change. I tried using sound packages and I also used the default sounds and still there is no change in the engine sound when I engage WEP. It's not a big problem but it keeps me from having to look down in fights to see if its on or off. It does work on other planes that I fly so I was wondering if there was a glitch in the F4U's.

The most noticeable change in sound in most planes is due to the RPM's raising under WEP.  Do the RPM's raise a lot in the F4U under WEP? (Don't fly F4U's a lot, so I have to ask.)  If not, then it's correct, but something your going to have to deal with on that plane.

I have noticed in a dive sometimes. its like the Wep kicks in but I guess its something I'm going to have to live with...

thanks for your reply!

I'm 99% sure the sound changes when WEP is toggled even when no extra engine performance is gained. I'm pretty sure you can demonstrate this in a P-51. Check the speed charts and take it up to the altitude where the red and black lines intersect.

I use to fly the F4U's a lot and I remember when I would engage WEP there was a noticeable change in engine sound. Well I been flying the Mustang and I decided to fly the F4U the other night and when i hit the WEP there was nothing, the Manifold gauge moved to WEP RPM's but there was no change in the sound of engine.

Pulling up this topic, as I just installed my game and having the same problems with wep sound.

And I miss the sound on other planes too, even the P51. But it's working just fine in the spitfire again.. And I have tried with and without soundpacks, and several different soundpacks with no change. Guess I have to reinstall the whole game as I have tried everything else?!  :furious

Are you running Vista? If so, did you install the game OUTSIDE of the "Program Files" folder?

Go to ur joystick control panel in windows and makesure your throttle goes to full (100%).  If it does, go in AH joystick control panel and check  and makesure it also goes to 100% throttle.  In order to engage wep, you have to be a full throttle.  If the joystick throttle doesn't hit full throttle, then recalibrate.  Could also be the pot in the joystick going bad too if all else fails.

But I do get WEP to work, its just the increase of the rpm sound that misses..

If I did not get 100% trottle it would not even wep up on the manifold instrument when I hit wep, or am I wrong here?
I am pretty sure it has to be some bug, since the sound works perfect in the spit also.
But now I made a huge mistake, tried to get help by a friend by logging in my trial account via his pc and my trial period got closed.. Even if I just had it for about 3-4 days..   :furious

Just wanted to see if the WEP sound worked via his AH2 installation, but since I lost my trial over that I don't think I even care to give this problem any more thoughts..
