Lack of trainer response . No one in trng arena
« on: June 04, 2008, 02:22:14 AM »
I dont want to sound like I am complaining . However I guess I am . I have sent a few emails . I have shown at scheduled times and I am having serious trouble finding a trainer . I am not the usual newbee . I do the homework . I understand my aircraft . I read endlessly . What I need is a trainer . I understand life intrudes , but I am very flexible on times . It is disheartening to do all I can , and reach a point where I need training help . I need someone to evaluate what I am doing wrong . I can only get so much from films. If there was a stickbox I could go further. My point is this . I am doing the work I have made some improvement , but I need some experienced help to get to where I want to be . I dont know what more to other than send emails requesting 1 on 1 and showing up on time with my notebook .I am just getting frustrated .

Hi hlbly - i was actually penning you a response to your email but i got busy before, so i'll reply here.

I assume it was you in the TA last night/morning? Think the gameid was slightly different? Anyway, first port of call is to try get along to any of the scheduled slots on the trainer's calender. I cant speak for the others but we can be a busy lot at times, and 1 on 1s aren't always easy to arrange.

Having said that, my tues morning (3am eastern) slots are usually fairly slow, so 1 on 1 is normally easy.  I realise that's a crazy time for most of AH2's player-base, but I'm actually from down under so its a fairly sane time of the evening for me.

For some reason I don't always receive emails until after a trainer responds...  Not sure why...

Anyway, PM me here through the boards and I'll try to set up an "appointment" with you.  I am leaving to go out of town tomorrow, and will be back on Sunday.  I plan to be in-game Sunday night, probably from 10pm Central til 4am Central Monday am.  I may nor be in the TA, but will be willing to switch there to work with you if that timing works out for you...

I'm in the TA almost every weekday afternoon 3 - 4:30 central time.

Stop by and give me a shout. I'm sure we can work something out.
I will warn you that I don't normally teach mid to advanced ACM.
But on good days I can manage to fly it somewhat.

My good friend Ghost taught me some evasion moves that saved my butt on countless occasions. Very often you will see him parked at the end of a runway watching, and giving training snacks , to a dozen people at a time.

Dont forget hlbly to also try and gain knowledge from the more expereinced players as well. Ive had some tremendous sessions just hanging out in the TA with guys who have been in the game for many years. My first lesson in the game came from a P-51 stick from the 4'th escort group and I still use the training I got from him.

I've seen trainers online and well somethimes they may be busy.  But I found it not that difficult to gett in contact with them. Ghost  :salute in particular is verry responsive.    And if not, a bit patients can help at the end you will have your trainer.

Patience is the key, I'm sure you'll eventually hook up with someone and it will be well worth it.

I'm not flying much during the week but I'll be happy to spend some time with you any time you can catch me. It's very natural to hit a bit of a wall as you progress since the lines blur and "right vs wrong" becomes more and more situational. I fly under "snaphook" as knight, our squad is on vox 171. I used to do a fair amount of "ride alongs" for guys where they would get a chance to observe. I think some of those films are still up. I've given a few rides in the A-20 recently and have gotten a lot of postive feedback since it requires more "setup". your initial post doesnt mention any problems, issues, planes or specific goals so it's hard to comment. I'll link a few old clips to this that I think illustrate some of the fundementals pretty well.

I'd also look at agents clips as well as any others. A bucnh of guys are pretty active dueling in the DA as well. If you dont see a trainer look in the DA for any of the "kennel" guys, you'll find most are both good sticks and willing to lend a hand to someone with a good attitude. The real key IMO is identifying your most specific "want" and then getting an impartial evaluation of where you really are on the learning curve. As I stated on the "dogfighting" thread alot of "dog fighting" is just correctly applied BFM.

This is a film clip and text right up I posted awhile ago to our squad site. I"ve always felt that its an outstanding "primer" for basic "dog fighting" since its flown entirely with fundemental BFM's from an "inferior" position vs a superior aircraft. One of the biggest issues I always had as a trainer was how often folks were looking for "uber" before they really understood the basics. At some point you'll need to fly right on the edge to beat a good stick if your in an inferior ride...but 85% of the time you'll win with just solid BFM if you fly right.

I'M VERY SURPRISED TO HEAR THIS. any time i've ever been in the TA, there's always someone in there. even if there's no actual trainers, as long bellybutton you can get off the ground, most players are generally more than helpful.

good luck and welcome aboard!!!

Make sure you get time zone conversions correct. The player base of this game spans not only across the country but around the world.

I have been in the TA to help folks a few times in the last couple of weeks.   Usually you have your Squeaker who is hellbent (* not to be confused with helbent) on trying to vultch A1, spam the country channel, spam 200 with "LOL" and other useless drivel.

If I'm in there I'll ask if anyone needs help.   I realize "I might not be an AH Certified Trainer", but I'm willing to pick up some slack.   But, these trainers have a life as well.

Regardless if you can hook up with a trainer on a individual day the important thing that matters hlbly is that good things happen in the TA regardless of whos in there. Its the one place where folks are only focused on improving and theres no scoring, no HO'ing, no smack talking. There have been a lot of days where Ive simply gone in there and taken 1/2 dozen airplanes up just to turn in circles and learn their stall limits and behavior. There have been plenty of days where Ive taken bombers up and just practiced gunnery, plenty of days where Ive gone in there and tried new things that popped up in my head at work, or, I read about.

Because in the end its not going to be the trainer who makes you a good stick. Its going to be YOU who makes you a good stick and the TA is the best training resource in the game.

There's always others in there you can fly against and every minute you can spend in a AH war plane you are also going to be training. Even better there is usually someone better then you in there to fly against. Which will help you grow. I myself should spend more time in there rather then grab-arseing around the MAs. I'd be a better stick if I did.

Every minute your in the TA has value. With, or without a trainer, you shouldn't squander it.
