This frame was much better for us (353rd) We had a much better night and did very well before being careless and caught re-arming on the ground at A37, even though warned in the orders.  Good Jump by the Allied there  :salute

Preliminary analysis indicates that the allied CV was hit by 1 Torpedo and multiple bomb hits.

Notch of JV44 Butcher Birds flying a B5N2 hit
slayem of SWAMPDRAGONS flying a D3A1 hit

I'd have to agree with ya there. RL delayed him and I managed to eek out my first kill in 2 years with him out of the way. Took 2 wingman hold him down for me though.
Sorry Hibbie. Told them you probably had friends coming. They killed all three of us 2 min later.

WTG Hacksaw!

Trax, you only met 1 of 3 squadrons defending the Carrier.  One other squadron flew out of position and ran into an enemy force and were quickly killed.  The third squadron fought for 20 minutes after your fight over the CV ended.  They wiped out half of your 3rd bomber strike force and only 1/5 of your close escort squadron escorting the 2 TBM squadrons.  Your 6 P39s vs 4 zekes with only 1 lost and 4 kills is a great tactical feat.

42 fighters and 32 bombers sent to kill our Carrier.  Our 18 fighter plane defense had a great FSO because of strategy and tactics on our part.  A greater turnout will be expected this coming frame 3 for this squadron.

FSO keeps getting better and better.  Experiencing the bad as well as the good makes FSO challenging and rewarding.

<S> daddog for a great plan and fun night.

That explains what was going on then, we thought the defense over the carrier was extremely light, we had just figured that either a squad was a no show, had low numbers, or that the CiC had gone heavy on offense and light on defense.  We were coming in expecting to just get slaughtered once we found the cv by it's cap and that we would never make it back to help escort the TBM's in.

Great plan to send in 3 strike packages to C7.

We foiled the third strike package, killing half before they could reach their target and the rest that made it to the target had a 25% hit percentage on our ships!  Those SBD's were brave to come in with their slower planes at 20k behind the main force.  But they were expected.  :)

You won THAT round froggie  :t

Part of the master plan was knowing the TBMs were going to waste the CV and CA, hopefully dragging the CAP with them.  However, I didn't count on the SBD being quite THAT SLOW  :O and we fell further behind than I had originally planned.  We were so far out of position, there was hardly any friendlies in the CV sector to even ask for a position... talk about feeling all alone!

As far as the 25% hits, of the four remaining SBDs, my bombs didn't even detonate (I'm so ashamed).  The others were just misses on the destroyers... I blame the electronic arming switch or something like that.  :uhoh

<S> alpo

I'm just trying to put thing in perspective so that I can feel better about dying myself.
Yeah those SBDs are very slow at all altitudes.  You didn't leave the parking brake on, did ya?
 ;)

Me diving bombing in FSO equals me being so nervous that I usually auger while thinking, "why are my cannons firing instead of my bombs dropping?"

Argh!
Crash!

With 1:4 odds, the defense for C7 did not have enough ammo to kill them all and we did our best against a great plan and great squadrons.  We had help in the beginning with a patrol squadron from A40, but that wasn't enough.  The CoD squad did a great job with their 4 P39s vs 4 zeros over the CV.  Great job at getting all the TBMS back home safely.

Oh and shreck, keep up the good work as a gunner!  They could use you in that position more often.
