You do realize this was the brits main fighter right?  It's not like they produced say P-38/39/40/47/51 lets not forget f4f/fu4/f6f and all their different variants.

Of course I do, but enough is enough with spits. The Spit XVI has everything you all could ask for in the LWA.

Gotta keep in mind that some folks don't want the 'bestest', but look for something that fits better for their idea of fun.  Kinda like a P38G driver instead of a 38L driver

the 16 is the best alround spit for E fighting with a 51 . but it's not great at a turn fight; good but not great . if you fly a spit IX right you can easily defeat a spit XVI . even a spit Vb will kill a XVI if flown right or should i say left?

Yes of course but if you think you have allot of skill and infact you dont and then you get shot down by a Spit 16; well if you have deluded yourself about your own abilities how hard is it to take the next step and delude yourself about those of the 16

I dont have allot of skill or ability and fly the 16 and fear what others see a lesser spits. I guess my ideal foe is a rookie who thinks hes a pro. When he augers he blames everything except himself

Must depend on your flying style I would guess. Sixteen rolls better and I prefer the gun package. Those 303's look effective but when yopur on the recieving end its just like tiny hail stones on the roof. "The bb guns".

You are right Yarbles.  It does depend on your flying style.  So I use the 16 more for BnZ because it rolls better when you have a lot of speed.  For straight up Turn n Burn or Yank n Bank I like the 8, becuse it's climb rate is as good as the 16 and turns slightly better than the 16(especially as altitudes increase).

How close do you need to be?

I would guess they work best agianst Jap planes made out of rice paper and matches
