I got an idea on how to settle this...

Ask the enemy CV to stop moving, turn off all its ack and let you keep dropping 1000 pounders and count how many it takes to sink it.

I found the change to 12,000 lbs. by testing a few months ago and posted something about it. I can't find the thread.  :frown: A separate test or tester is always welcome for confirmation.  ;)

BTW, some CMs stated that they increased the CV hardness for a scenario, but that is not possible. CV hardness is not adjustable. It is in the coad. Other ship hardness is adjustable though.

Which I just did and indeed 4x 2K bombs (default settingssingle B24, perfect hit on deck from 1.5K alt) did not sink it...

I don't sink CV's often, but I've always used Lancaster's salvoed at 4 with the 1k bombs. I then do 3 separate drops and any one that hits usually sinks it. So that would be 12k worth of ords.

Ok..  Two offline tests at default settings.

Result: 8K didn't work, 12K did.

Would just have been nice if the information on website would have been updated, and maybe some info in release notes ;)

When there's a CV near, depending on what I'm in the mood for, I'll either up Ju-88s and salvo 2 with the 500kg bombs...or up Ar.234s and go in at 2K on the CV.

Lusche...did you try 10K just to make sure?

I think it's a good change. One thing it did was eliminate a single player from using a second account to spot a hidden task group and sink it with a set of Ar-234s.

I sink them if they are threatening a field, but not if the town is up and a good fight is being enjoyed by all. Drop the town or launch LVTs and your CV is going to the bottom. :)

Of course everyone has their favorite plane to sink a CV. I use the B-26 since it climbs faster and gets over the target quicker.

I did now complete a somewhat larger test run with some interesting results.

Method:
Offline Practice, all arena settings (but protect objects) and object settings set to default.
Complete arena reset between individual runs (= restarting Aces High)
Single bomber, bomb altitudes between 850 and 1000 ft. Delay 0.05. Bomber speeds between 157-186 mph.

All attacks runs commenced from astern. Not a single bomb missed.


Results:

Lancaster, 1000 lb
Salvo 12 = sunk
Salvo 11 =  sunk
Salvo 10 = sunk
Salvo 9 = sunk
Salvo 8 = sunk
Salvo 7 = not sunk

B24, 2000 lb
Salvo 4 = not sunk

I did repeat both Lancaster as well as B24 8k drops two times, with same results every run.


This seems to indicate that it's still 8K to sink a CV, not 12.

you can bomb a friendly cv
go in the arena settings and turn protect objects OFF (make the value 0)
you now can kill friendly structures/ships/strats

Basically, the 2,000lb bomb isn't really 2,000lbs.
i remember rolex saying something about this in the bomber clinic
