We had a great time in the weather last night. Bukrub and I winged up in heavy P-51d's to escort a flight of B-17's to the training facility in zone 22. We had a long uneventful climb out inbound the target and spent the time telling lies and dirty jokes on TS.
We finally ran into some FW-190's about 20 miles out fron the drop; Buk and I jettisoned our bombs and went for the 190's. We tied up two 190's in a long fight down to around 10k and the other went for the bombers. Buk and I finally killed the two 190's we were engaged with and started grabbing back to the bombers to help them out, when Chemdawg radioed that they had killed the third 190 at the cost of one B-17.
They had made their bomb drop and were turning for home, so we were cautiously climbing to form up with our bombers for the return trip when we were jumped by a 234 that very nearly got Bukrub before I could yell at him to break. We gave chase to the 234 and followed it to the deck where all three of us jockied for a shot. I was very low on ammo at this point and was trying to set Bukrub of for a shot at the jet when he suddenly flew into a mountain.
This left me alone with about 6 rounds, deep in enemy territory, with a 234 driver determined not to let me get home. I ran and dodged this pilot for around 45 miles while waiting for my squaddies to come give me a hand. I finally gave him the slip in a canyon where he lost vis on me long enough to lose him for good. I was able to make it home where I was pleasantly surprised by the severe cross wind on the runway I chose to land my two kills on; it required full rudder to keep her nose pointed down the runway.
We have enjoyed many similar missions like this one in the arena here lately; a big thanks goes out to all the staff and players that have contributed to this very realistic arena.
