I'd like to form a new FSO squad
« on: June 28, 2008, 02:39:48 PM »

Background:
Currently playing very little in the MA, I am looking at a move soon, which will allow me more time for AH, and most especially, FSO.
I was a member of the MAW (Marine Air Wing) and served as CO and XO in FSO as well as CO in the MA for a short period (I think I killed the squad  :O)
I have been a CM, working sunday squad ops, friday squad ops and the short lived sunday event "Close Escort" for which I was team lead.
As squad CO I served several frames as CiC in FSO and have a strong knowlege of the requirements of the task (and can help you learn how to do it too).

Now, I am not trying to steal pilots from existing squads, but I will welcome those who are maybe feeling a bit superfluous in a large squad or want to become more involved in squad activities than what they have been so far.  I want to spread the responsibilities around, flight lead duties especially.  New players will also be welcome, a long as you are a paying customer of AHII and will bring a mature, level headed attitude into the squad.

If you are someone with a history of causing trouble in the SEA, I'd rather you not apply.  We will maintain discipline and will not be a nuisance or hindrance.  We will play fairly and with teamwork and will show respect to both our allies and our enemies, and most especially to the CM's and HTC staff.

I would prefer applicants be of age (18+) but will consider younger players on a case by case basis.  Maturity is the key here if you are 14 going on 40, you'd fit in fine, if you are 40 going on 14, well.........maybe not.

I'll vouch for BlkKnit as a top notch guy!  Give him a call.   :aok

Thanks guys, I knew it would be tough to get a new squad up, but figured I'd give it a go and see what happened.  I hoped that those players who wanted to play FSO, but maybe didn't know who to approach for a guest slot might be interested.

I am NOT afraid to take on new or inexperienced players.  I was one once and some great folks guided me through my early days in the SEA.

BTW, that xfire link...its not necessary that you join the xfire squad or that you even have xfire.  Thats just something i did, well, because it was there :)

Oh, and one other item:  This is intended as an SEA squad, but we could expand into the MA easily enough.  However, let it be known that membership in the SEA squad does NOT mean you must be a member of the MA squad.  If you are a member of a non FSO squad in the MA, but would like to fly FSO with my squad, you are more than welcome.  OS in SEA, your old squad in the MA.  Its no problem at all.

BlkKnit,

If you need a squad to fly FSO with while your working up a new squad, your welcome to fly with the Damned during FSO.

I have flown with you in the MA in the past and just wanted to pass an invite if you need it.

   Welcome back.

I'm no expert, but seems to me you're doing it all backwards. First you find the group of folks you like to fly FSO with, THEN create the squad. Don't create a squad and hope a group of friends you will like is going to join.

Putting the cart before the horse.

There's a reason a lot of FSO squads are also squads in the MA, because they already know they like each other, can fly with each other, and already knew who was going to join their squad in the FSO.

Yes, I know.  Just figured it would be worth a try and I have a month or two to work at it.  And I thought maybe there might be a few more out there like me, who want to fly but their squad doesn't, and they don't want to leave their non-FSO MA squads and don't want to take up a "guest" slot.  I've been around ;)

The MAW was very much a large part of FSO a few years ago, especially in the old days before AHII.  But, interest waned it became difficult to be sure of even 3 pilots in any given frame.  Much of that was my own fault, as time became more and more difficult to come by.  I am moving closer to my place of work and will be able to commit to FSO even if I have to work the next day.  Right now that is impossible, but by the time the September FSO rolls around I will be moved and should be all set to go.

If there is no interest in what I am proposing here, well, its OK.  I still feel that trying is worth while.

There's a reason a lot of FSO squads are also squads in the MA, because they already know they like each other, can fly with each other, and already knew who was going to join their squad in the FSO.

As BlkKnit explained, an MA squad may become involved with FSO due to curiosity or, more likely, because of the enthusiasm of 1 or 2 squad members that find a real attraction to the FSO environment.

After a time, even their enthusiasm cannot keep the participation of the group up to the levels required, and the squad eventually is removed from the FSO roster.

The 1 or 2 squad members that truly enjoy FSO are thus orphaned by their MA squad, so they fly as guests with other squads or, perhaps, even join them.

I think many of these 'orphans' would recognize the desire to fly with others that have gone through the same, as they all care the commonality of being part of FSO for what it is, rather than just because the squad is doing it.

I applaud blkKnit for what he is trying to accomplish and I hope it works out.  A full squad of only those that truly enjoy FSO for what it is would be a sublime squad indeed.

......heh  Drones a funny guy  :P

OK, so far I've had one nibble.  I find that encouraging  :)

Look, I know there are players who would like to give FSO a try, who love events but their MA squad does not fly them.  I know I do not fly as much as I once did and many will not recognize my handle.  Trust me, I've been here a while, I've flown in every type of event we have, except the air races (have wanted to do that one too, just no time for it).  I have CM'ed, CiC'ed and CO'ed FSO's without having to be sanctioned or reprimanded.

If the nibble I got bites, we will be able to provide guidance to inexperienced players, and we will also look to expose those players to the things it takes to be a CO or CiC.  IMO that sort of guidance is important, and will add to the list of capable leadership in FSO.

Post or PM if interested  :salute

BlkKnit is a great guy and would form an excellent squad. Big  :aok from me.

BlkKnit how about post in the Squad forum and see what you get in there. Also advertise in the MA, or look for guys that are not in a squad and tell them about FSO. It will take time to build it up, but well worth it. :)
