Simply stated. Which is the best of the series to gain experience with the airframe? Flown the E-4 many times in the AvA BoB setups, was fun to fly
It would be the 109f4 without question. This bird turns with anything, has a climb rate of 3700 to 4000 all the way to 15k....that can be beat by only a few other planes. It is fast. 325 level on the deck. Can dive to 400 and still keep E pretty good. It has most uber stall maneuverability. It is the easiest of all 109's to control at 50 mph in a stall turn or scissors.
It has the same 20mm as all the other 109's. But it only has 2 BB's for mg's (30 cal equilivent). You get 200 rounds of 20mm out the nose. People say the guns are weak.....pfffft. Same cannon as all the others. Just lack the 50 cal mg's.
It can gain E back well and at slow speeds and will out climb nearly all planes at stall speeds. Combined with the maneuverability of stall and climb it can't be beat.
The only disadvantage is the top speed. Going against a faster plane with more E it can be tricky to draw them in close enough to start scissors.
But for pure learing a 109 the 109f4 is the one to start with. The G2 is a bit faster with a better climb up to 5k. But for learning I think you need to stay with the f4 model. It is just a better all around plane. Ignore the speed part for now. IF you want to learn the 109 fly the f4 first. Experiment with the stall and climb. Go fast. To start climb out to 10k and then engage lower. Get familiar with it. Then fly in lower at about 5k and practice turning and stall fighting.
I fly only the 109k4 and the 109f4 with few exceptions. I love the f4 but for more advanced acm it doesnt have the speed to catch hogs, la's, p51's etc. The k4 can force an enemy to fight where the f4 is slower and you have to sometimes wait out the BZ part to get close.
The G2 is a good second choice but I recommend the f4.
