20mm bullet doesn't pass through the glass. Here look for your self http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://home.hiwaay.net/~davelant/hole.jpg&imgrefurl=http://home.hiwaay.net/~davelant/lib.htm&h=321&w=380&sz=14&hl=en&start=19&um=1&tbnid=0iRQPg9BnR8RRM:&tbnh=104&tbnw=123&prev=/images%3Fq%3D20mm%2Bbullet%2Bhole%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG
You have to remember, they do NOT write articles or publish pictures about all the very dead gunners for whom the plexiglass helped not a whit.

This was a story because it was relatively rare.

You can see through the spaces untouched by the cracks, its enough to see, and that still means your operational, the only problem is that the bullet did screw your vision of the outside pretty badly.
There's the other problem that the gunner had shrapnel embedded in his chest from the 20mm round exploding in the glass.

Anybody mention WWII 20mm armament usually included AP rounds in the belting?

Woops, did I just solve the case?

Hit once in the shoulder and twice in the left leg. And it's not glass, it's acrylic (plexiglass).

Chances are 20mm AP would have blown right thru the armored window (and the Sgt.)

I didn't read much into it, I just saw the bandages wrapped around his chest and assumed that's where he was hit.

I thought that too until I looked closer. That's the sheet you're seeing. The shrapnel he took were the fuses from the 20mm rounds. Probably the largest piece of steel in an MG 151/20 mine shell.

So i was thinking anything under the damage of a 20mm bullet won't disable the Gunner, but anything past a 20mm is definitely bound to kill the Gunner.

Sounds great as long as the .50s from the bomber can't penitrate the armored front glass of my Jug giving me the famous one ping PW evey time I approach a formation diving @ 450kts.
