$30k or so to build. VW power burning about 4gph @ 130-150mph. Stalling @ 40mph full flaps.

Avfuel is getting very very very.........very very............VERY expensive depending on which you use.

That is why so many are going with VLJ's instead of turboprops in many situations.

Fuel costs are not going down.  There is really no alternative to aircraft like a hybrid that is going to keep you aloft.

Personally I think that people that own aircraft that complain about fuel prices is like people you complain about the gas prices while they puff down 2 packs a day at $5 / pack.
It's a personal decision that you have to decide what is important to you.

If you fly for fun and own or fractionally own an aircraft, I'm sure you realize that the maintenance and ownership costs are FAR more expensive than fuel.

Now if you fly it persistent for business reasons, well I can't imagine that there are many companies out there that aren't scaling back their hangars and staff to save.  Think how much it costs for a lear to go 1 thousand miles, two ways, three or four times a week!  YIKES!

VLJs and Turboprops burn the same type of fuel.  Turboprops burn less of it than straight jets.  If fuel was the issue then you'd be better with the turboprop.

The total net worth of these people who own/operate business jets fuel costs are not the issue as much as the fuel availability.  As long as there is fuel to be burned, those who operate the jets will burn it.

I would love to have that problem "should I buy an efficient turboprop or increase the size of my manhood with a jet" :rofl :rofl

Right now I am having are hard time convincing my self to spend the extra money on the airplane and fuel or drive.

I'm attempting to get on with building a variant of one of these :)

2 seats. 1250lbs MTOW. 210HP Subaru EJ25T on MOGAS. Electric MT Prop. retractable gear.
Very bloody fast.

It is a labour of love. My Dad loves buying tools too much to stop building. KR2 is a nice affordable aircraft that you can go for a burger in. It is too small for my frame :cry

Do what I'm doing and widen it to 44" the original is only 38" across and it is a little cramped :) I'm doing an S but it's actually an XS since it's also going to be 23" longer than standard. There is a lot of proven mods available for this airframe, it's also the basis for the Lancair and Gary Morgan's Joey2 and Cheetah aircraft.

My Dad wants to put a harley motor on his Rebel. I have tried to talk him into a lycoming but he is stubborn hope I don't catch that :rofl :rofl http://www.murphyair.com/murphyair/default-2.html I personally don't have the time to build but in a few years when I retire  :aok

44" across  that is good but what about the useful load?

The useful load 2 up is not much. Solo you can take a small tent, enough clothes for a weekend along with your basic equipment and still have room for a little bit extra, there is just not much room for it. The KR is not really a touring aircraft more of a sports plane :)
Has your Dad thought about using a Roetc Radial on his rebel? they look and sound awesome! I looked at one for mine but just will not fit neatly :(

Yes. They claim it will be off the ground at gross in 300' and climb at 1200' per min. I am looking forward to getting it flying. Then next would be the floats. :aok
