I find vulching is probably the single most irritating thing a player can do.  It takes comparatively little skill and, far more important, it operates to reduce the number of good fights you can find, rather than increase them.  Under most circumstances (I concede that it serves a valid purpose if there's a goon on the way to the base) it's the mark of the guy who just wants to amass a big score for his text buffer glory.  To say that you can always up from another base misses the point.  Having to up from a far-away base simply increases the amount of time it takes to get to a fight - again reducing the quantity of quality combat encounters.  You might have enjoyed a fun fight with the guy you shot on the runway, but we'll never know, will we?

I hate vulching.  Hate hate hate.  Loathe, detest, despise.

While I understand vulching, and it's appeal (being an unabashed vulching fiend in a previous life).  To me the frustration comes from the idea that if I'm parked near someones field I would rather let the other guy up and get a little alt and speed so he/she at least has a fighting chance.  To me that is much more interesting for both parties involved, it's a chance for fun both for the fella with the advantage and the person who just took off, yet it's the exception in the arena than the rule.

Of course I'm essentially a furballer at heart, to me the dogfight is the most interesting, dynamic part of gameplay.  Someone who is more interested in taking the field would want the vulch, it suppresses the defenders and doesn't render the field useless after the capture. I do have to concede that I'd rather deal with vulchers than waves of bombers leveling everything in sight.

Vulching is for people that can't get kills in a dogfight.

And that's why I like to do it when I get the opportunity.  Has nothing to do with score and everything with pissing the vulchee off.  Same reason I like to shoot chutes.

Amen, brother.  The logic escapes me why people want to send 16-20 Lancs to level an airfield for an easy capture.  What's the point in having an unusable field?  One would think capturing an operation field would serve as a stepping stone to the next.  Just my thought.

All of you who say vulching is disgusting are hypocrites! (you know who you are) When a base capture is underway it is sheer lunacy to loose the cap and let the "bad" guys up. Especially if capturing the base more or less intact for future operations is the aim.

What is disgusting is to cap a base for the vulch if there is no attempt to flatten the town and take the base... I call it a vulch for vulchings sake. Then, upping  a few Hi Altitude BnZ pickers from an adjacent base to break the vulch is called for, or if the VH is still up a few Werbelwinds/Ostwinds/Soft Guns will do the trick.

Capping a base for a capture is a perfectly legitimate tactic IMHO, Setting up a vulch just to pad your score is not... my 2 cents

BTW... it is indeed madness to attempt to up from a capped field.

I don't like to vulch all that much because its too hard. It involves flying too near the ground, bucking ack and flak, trying to shoot guys I can't see (because the icon is clipped), all of this before another "pig at the trough" guns down the plane I'm trying to murder. I mean, to get lots of kills vulching means you are practically in the pattern for the runway you are hitting, leaving you very vulnerable to any high bandits coming in who actually want to fight. Recipe for frustration. :D

Also, if you shoot them down the instant they spawn at the end of the runway, they eventually learn their lesson and quit trying to up. IMO, you want to at least let them get their gear up. Give'em some hope that you can dash.  :devil YMMV

Nice thing about the 38 rolling down the runway into the vulch is you have all those guns in the nose to point right at em and blast away :)

i just start upping bombers and distracting them from the task at hand. but if not, 190, 38 or 109 with gondies works fine too hehehe
