Kills List - Auto Film
« on: July 28, 2008, 09:44:02 PM »
Please HT I would like to be able to see a list of my kills for a tour. Maybe not all of them but like a list of the last twenty or so? I had a really really good fight with some guys tonight and frankly the fight went so long and so many kept entering and bouncing me that I lost track of who they all were. The one guy I remembered had logged off when I went to salute him. I forgot to roll film so I dont have any of it and a list would be a way to see if they had it on film too but of course I cant.

Something else I would like to have is a gun camera that automatically starts when you fire your guns. It would be really cool if it was in the front of the wing aiming through the prop (on the pony that is) so is more realistic. That would save a lot of drive space for me too.

I think an auto-film idea has been brought up in the past, and I still think it is a good idea.  I am not so sure about a pure "gun-cam" as it sounds like you want.  A lot can go into a fight before you actually pull the trigger, and it is the lead-up to guns-solution where you can see what you did right or wrong.

I can't remember who was the first to ask this, but the best idea IMO would work something like this.  A player would have the option to auto-record his sorties in his flight preferences.  If selected, the film would roll automatically every time he launched.  At the end of each sortie, when he returned to tower (shot down or landed), there would be a pop-up that would ask if you wanted to save the film, and ask you to name it.  If you decided nothing worth keeping happened that sortie, you could just click "no" and the film would be overwritten by the next sortie.  If you did save it, giving it a name would make it easier to find and review later.

This would solve the "crap, I wish I had been recording" problem, and it would also solve the "which of the 14 sorties that I recorded tonight was the good one" problem.

Yes that would be nice also. I had in mind a system that would replicate an ACMI computer logging all the instrumentation but then I decided the coding would slow things in the game down even more. Something that just records when I squeeze the trigger would probably cause warping issues so your probably right. Its just everytime I record a film nothing happens much. If I do a film every flight then I have a ton of films to go through and if I dont in the heat of combat it never gets turned on.

Trust me when I say you would have enjoyed seeing the action tonight.  :aok  :salute to the unkown combatants.

I remember from my copy of the old AHCon recordings that HT was all-for and enthusiastic about the auto-film idea, and a few other things. I wonder why it hasn't been put in or even really mentioned?

Yeah I brought this idea up at the 2006 con and talked to HiTech and Pyro about it. I've made a couple of posts over the years since then bt so far nada. :(

Here is the link to one of the threads I started about this.

I wouldn't mind having a gun cam sort of thing. As an option and it starts when you pull the trigger, and it stops 15-30 seconds after you stop firing (your option.)

Could HTC make a whole other folder called Gun-Cam or something like that. To open up completely different w/ the film viewer? It would be pretty cool. :rock

Good idea E252, but I think that it could be two options. Like it starts when you pull the trigger and stops 15-30 secs after... and when you're done and you tower out, it'll then ask you.  :aok

Or why have an option that turns on the camera when you take off, and rolls it until you stop(crashes, bailing out, landing)but it only saves if you get a kill or destroy somehting.
Quite frankly, I just don't give a damn.
