Normally, you'd be screwed in trying to get rid of DirectX as MS doesn't add any sort of uninstall for it. However, there are a few 3rd party programs that will allow you to uninstall it. You can download one of them from
Major Geeks and use it to uninstall DirectX.
After you've uninstalled it, reboot your machine and when it boots back into windows, go
Microsoft DirectX page to download DirectX. You may have to do a bit of navigating to get to the DirectX 9c runtime client. A shorter way is if you have any recent boxed games which should have DirectX 9c on the install disks. You can also install DirectX 9c that way as well.
