Pretty neat trick landing both the 38 and the JU88 that's covering it between those two trees ;)

I was in my heavier P-38 tonight getting some time in it. I was low and slow and I see a nice tree coming towards me. I decide that the tree will move....BS! I hit the tree and spiral out of control, but not crashed. So I'm I look around and I see myself right in between two trees!.

oh can you do it?

You were in a Ju-88, not a 38.

Fly through a bomber hangar within 2 tries, whilst in a B-26 and inverted.   SketchCAF (now AKSketch), OddCAF, GunrCAF, GrimmCAF were witness to this prior to a CAF Squad night.  Sketch and I both failed at trying not to laugh uncontrollably, it is something we still laugh at and this happened in 2005.

It is from the book "Utmost Savagery" by Jospeh Alexander.    It is about Tarawa and was released in about 1996 IIRC.   Read it then, was a decent read.    "Given up for Dead" by Bill Sloan is the best book I have ever read dealing with the PTO.

It was from a book called 'One Square Mile of Hell' Best book I've ever read. It always seems the most moving and best all around poems are for the American soldiers.

Here's another quote:

Quote
You say it's not on the map, my son?
O God, it's engraved on my heart!
That fringe of palm, our approach at dawn,
A challenge to death, and the hellish spawn
That tore loose our clay at Tarawa!

You want me to tell you about it, my son?
It's an epic of blood and tears!
These sightless eyes and mangled feet
Proclaim our victory and the Japs' defeat
On the charnel-like sands of Tarawa!

Lifeblood the price by which an atoll was won:
Look again.... it must be on the map, my son!
