CV Damage.
« on: August 20, 2008, 08:29:08 PM »
Recently its been seeming like the CV's are taking much more damage then 8K. I heard a rumor that HTC increased the damage with the introduction of the new CV, however I cant figure out how much ord it takes to sink it  :cry :(

ive put many runs from a F4U1D + 2 runs from a lancaster a squadie did, and it didnt sink....

I think (but I'm not sure) that snailman (our game mechanics expert  :D) said it was increased to 14,000lbs to kill a cv.

Snails lack the necessary body parts to facilitate "crawling".

Since we're on the CV topic, I have a question too.  Does damage get repaired over time if the CV isn't sunk?  Or is damage permanent?  It does seem like they're lasting longer under fire than I've grown to expect.

I should probably know as a trainer, but I don't, hehe!

Rolex and Lusche both tested CV hardness within the last 60 days.  It was still 8x1,000lb bombs last test report I saw.

Ship damage does repair over time.  It seems like the down times are normally maxed for task groups, which makes sense since there is no supply chain for them.

Yes, Murdr is right about our recent tests @ 8 x 1,000 lb. bombs and as of yesterday, it was still the same.

Remember that a bomb missing the CV does not explode. You must hit the CV and being close doesn't count.

I can't tell you how many times I've been on a CV and watched the bombs miss the ship, go in the water and destroy a CV anyway... it's happened more times than i care to guess.

12,000 is what I heard but glad to hear test says 8,000. (Was test done in main?)

I've been sinking them successfully using all the Ju-88  500's (12 x 1100 =13,200)
If i drop just a salvo of 3 which =  9900 pounds it stays afloat. Maybe i miss a few doing it that way,  i don't know.

I'm unable to find it right now but I read it somewhere in here http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/ that underwater level explosions cause more damage.

BTW, why is that link not directly attached to the home page?

That's factored into torpedo attacks, which thus had their destructive power doubled in one of the last updates (2.10, April 2007)

You cannot resupply a CV.

The bombs that hit the CV sunk it, not the ones that missed.

The trainers site is listed in the drop down menu on the main page as "Need Training?"

I'm still scratching my head over this one, perhaps someone can explain the error in my testing methodology?

These are my test parameters;
  • Terrain- Midway
  • reloaded default settings and saved
  • set Protect Object to 0
  • set A1 to Knight
  • Moved c20 into position for test
  • Launched 1 B-24 with 4 2000lbs bombs and 50% fuel
  • set salvo 4 and delay 0.05
  • dropped from 1100 feet approximately (speed 219 0 climb on E6B)

I hit the CV with all 4 2000lbs and had numerous object destroyed messages but the CV did not sink. I've attached a screen shot just after the first bomb hit. I'd be glad to post the film if needed.

A 2k bomb is only worth 1.719 1k bombs.  You were short of hitting it with equiv of 8 - 1k bombs.

Try 8x1K bombs (Lanc) and it will sink.

See also http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,239305.msg2900783/topicseen.html#msg2900783

And near misses do inflict damage on the CV.
