I wish there was a way to do a poll here. I'd like to know how many Republicans like the fact Obama chose Biden for VP, and how many Democrats like it. I really don't get the choice. As I remember the primary season started with Biden being called racist for his assessment of Obama as being "clean and articulate." As a Republican, I can't think of another person Obama could have chosen that would have made me happier ( other than his hut dwelling brother, George).

How do Democrats feel about the choice? I know in the end the VP won't make a difference, but do you think he could have made a better choice for his campaign? I really don't understand the logic behind his choice, i.e., choosing a person who described Obama unready to be President, voted for the war in Iraq, and said he would run on the same ticket as John McCain, supported the bankruptcy overhaul of 2005 (making it harder to claim bankruptcy, and putting Biden in bed with the credit card companies), a Washington insider, recipient of lobbyist money etc.  It seems absurd.

I'm honestly wondering if Obama is as dumb as I say he is

I think it's all part of a vile plot by a renegade sovereign fund to get Pelosi into the white house.

Biden was a good pick for Obama, after what happened to John Edwards, Biden is the only person who can sound stupider than Obama

I'm fairly certain that "stupider" isn't actually a word. Merriam-Webster appears to agree.

I can't see how this choice is going to benefit the Obama campaign....two liberals on the same ticket.  Biden only appears moderate when his record is compared to the man who chose him as his running mate.

With each presidential campaign cycle, the Democratic Party's candidate selection process becomes more radical and incoherent.  They'll carry the left coast, or both of them actually, and every demographic group sucking the government teat, and wring their hands in frustration at their inability to make any inroads with the moderate working class.

In addition, the refusal of Obama's campaign to seriously consider kissing and making up with Hillary Clinton is going to bear bitter fruit....with the emphasis on bitter.  Some of her supporters will deeply resent the fact that Obama was willing to forgive Biden's derogatory remarks made during the primary debates, but unwilling to do the same for Hillary.  The revelation this week that her name was never placed on the list of possible VP candidates will reinforce that resentment, which has been festering since the end of the primary campaign.

Nope....this isn't a good choice....except for the opposing party.

On the other hand, Shuckins, Obama's polling numbers seemed to decline the moment he started pandering to the center.

Of course, there's only one poll that counts...

Well Sandman, Bill Clinton pandered to the center...and won.  Obama's poll numbers may be sliding, but pandering to the center has nothing to do with it.  His numbers are sliding because the bloom is off, voters are no longer looking at him through rose colored glasses...and are starting to ask themselves a hard question:  Do I really want this man to be the next president?

Before that question can be answered, another must be addressed:  Is he really what he says he is, a man who is going to be a different type of candidate?  More and more voters are beginning to doubt that he is a genuine voice for "Hope and Change."  Rather, he is beginning to be perceived, at least by folks in the center, as just another Party Man, giving lip-service to the notion of bipartisanship.

Regards

Sixteen years ago. A lot has happened since then. I have my doubts that Clinton's strategy would be effective today.

The country hasn't changed THAT much.   :D  The working class is still the working class, and moderates are still moderates.  The only difference between then and now is that the demographic groups sucking up government largesse see a chance in Obama to really clean up.  They'll turn out for this election in record numbers.

However, the moderate voters will still have the greatest impact upon the outcome of this election, and two liberals on the same ticket is a great way to alienate many of them.
