i would have personally put this in the wishlist, its more of a wish for early war rides than a general discussion how we need more, no?

It all depends on whether special events are a main part of AH for you or not.  For those of us who play special events regularly (like the upcoming Battle of Britain scenario, coming up in October or November -- http://ahevents.org/pacific-theatre/current-or-next-scenario-2.html ), aircraft like the He 111 make a very large difference and are very much sought after.

The Main Arena is very fun, but to some folks, it's more like the practice area for special events, not the final destination.

I like the MA a great deal.  I don't mean to imply that I don't, and I don't at all want to see it displaced.  For special events, the MA is excellent as it provides a place to fly whatever plane you want practice in and to keep your skills sharp.  You can jump in whenever you want, and it's an enormous amount of fun.  I think a lot of people will continue to fly in the Main Arena regardless of (and to some extent in addition to) whatever other modes of play are available.

... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

The cannon variant (2x ShVAKs, 300 rounds) makes I-16 the most heavily armed single-engine fighter of the early war.
