« on: September 04, 2008, 12:41:12 PM »
So, anyone have any problems with AH2 and a GeForce 8800 GTS or 9800 GTX ?

Either card will run circles around the game.  For about $115 after rebate you can pick up an 8800GT 512mb on newegg or for about $150 after rebate you can get a ATI 4850 512mb

Been running a 880GTS 320MB with a Asus board for over a year now ( Intel duo core 2.6 w 4 Gigs ram with Vista Ultimate, 7200RPM SATA drive  ). Rock solid stable & I run with 1024 hi res textures at 1920 x 1200 on a 24 inch LCD. All graphic options in AH turned up to maximum, and I preload all textures.  Card also running AH with 4x AA and vsynch on.  I get a solid 59FPS and the only time I get any stutter at all is a very slight pause as I enter the vicinity of a furball over tanktown. Once Im there all is fine.

I've got an 8800 GTS 512.  It keeps my FR pegged at my refresh rate (60) in all situations with all graphic settings maxed in the game and set very high in the card set-up (16x AA, 4x AF, etc... more than needed).

I have an eVGA 8800GTS KO and I love it.    BaldEagl talked me into staying with eVGA, I'm glad he did.

I have the 8800 GTS. Its adaquate for AH. Runs it all on high settings 60fps. Its couple of years old though, may be getting time to move up.

Just a heads up for you eVGA folks...they offer a 90 day "step-up" program that allows full credit for your current eVGA card. I found out about it 1/2 a day too late  :cry

Also, BFG, EVGA, and XFX (I think XFX) have lifetime warranties on their cards.  If something as little as the fan making noise/dying = new video card.  But EVGA and more recently BFG require you to register on their website to get the lifetime warranty.

IMO, the lifetime warranty is well worth it.  I'd rather play $30+ more for the same card if the more expensive manufacturer offered the lifetime warranty.

Fencer, you may well be aware of this already.  Long long ago, I bought a new vid card and found no improvement on my end.  The problem was the combination of mobo, chip, and memory had things running as fast as they could already.  A new card which could process better and faster was held back those three elements.

I saw some news reports about nvidia recalling thousands of vid cards from their previous generation chips...  Defective manufacturing process and it kills the cards.  If you buy a previous gen card (8xxx or 9xxx) you *might* get one of those.  They work for a while and then die, apparently.

If you want nvidia, I'd say go for a 260 series card.  Great bang for the buck and it's *new*.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

I know BFG Tech got nailed/caught using returned 8800's and re-selling them as 9800's.   In most cases, they just put the new sticker over the old one.

Source?

I haven't heard about that and I cruise the EVGA forums occasionally.  If this was true it would also be showing up in the newegg user reviews and people on this forum would be throwing out alerts.

I believe the recall only involves notebook graphic systems and not the cards we all know and love.
