Osama bin Laden: Innocent bystander
« on: September 11, 2008, 01:18:59 PM »
According to Dana Perino and the Bush administration today, he really didn't have much to do with 9/11. It was all Khalid Sheikh Mohammed's idea. Bin Laden, he was... nobody really. We won, really we did. We didn't fail to catch him at Tora Bora. It would take Superman to catch him...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gwb2EuzGN4

It's weird how directly contrary this is to statements two years old:

Osama bin Laden, mastermind of September 11th, the person that many people talk about and still have concerns about, calls this fight, the fight in Iraq, “the third world war.” - Tony Snow, September 2006 press conference.

Long and short of it is: Bin Laden is still out there seven years later. Just today, FINALLY, the US military said they would start going into Pakistan, and it didn't matter if the Pakistani government cared or not. They no longer need be notified.

Now THAT is a dead or alive posse. THAT is "you are either with us or against us." That may produce results.

That's not what she said, watch the video you posted a few more times.

I don't think that's possible.

Bush lost a flip flop and cut his heel over there and had to come back home.  Problem is he still has one flip flop on. :aok

In the Republican "Up is Down" world, probably not.

Funny that nobody at least comments about the US willing to fly & drive into Pakistan now, with new pursuit rules. With Musharraf kicked to the curb, I would think everyone here would at least be happy about that. If anyone would appreciate a ROE that makes winning impossible, it would be this group here.

It's kinda funny, but right after the U.S. incursions into Pakistan started, the Pak's reported that they killed 100 militants' on their side of the border themselves. However, they are still mad that the U.S. has violated their territorial integrity to move across themselves.

I wonder if that 100 killed thing is a hoax? Designed to make the U.S. think that the Pak's have their side of the border under control? Because they still want the U.S. to stay out.

I can understand the pakistani's being mad, but dont really give a damn.

please explain the "makes winning impossible" part.

Taliban or sympathetic faction set up base of operations within Pakistan. They are free to organize missions, recruit and train, all with little or no fear of getting a LGB dropped on them while they sleep, or US Special Forces keeping an eye on them.

They move with impunity across into Afghanistan, to conduct attacks and ambushes. They retreat against any organized force.

Finally, we send Predators in and bomb them
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/09/08/AR2008090800263.html?hpid=topnews

The Pakistanis claim we hit civilians, but they always claim BS like that. If they didn't want to collect some collateral damage, they shouldn't have been providing safe haven to Taliban all these years.

And, for all the French bashing that goes on here at O'Club - they have gotten hit in Afghanistan as well as the Canadians

http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2008/09/04/afghan-natynczyk.html?ref=rss

The Taliban are surging, this month was the deadliest in the war history. Senior commanders acknowledge the need for an alteration in strategy.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26642415/

I would say the inability to bomb in Pakistan (up to this point) made winning in Afghanistan impossible. As long as the enemy has safe haven, they can regroup and retrain. Extermination is the only way. If the Pakistanis don't like civilian casualties, then they can get the army mobilized to help us, put those F-16s that we sold them to some good use. Otherwise they can shut up.

That's what I meant.

Just line them up against the wall, eh? Maybe gas them? In the shower?

Then, when George says, "We do not torture", he'll be equivocating even more.

I'm sure that would really help our standing in the world community.
