I had to wait ~40 seconds for AH to respond again after going into the video settings and selecting "widescreen".

It appeared as if the game had frozen, but with patience, it turned out fine.

I preload all skins and have a Nvidia 7950GT video card.

It for some reason now plays offline again but still when changing from wide to standard or vise versa it locks up. I let it set for over 3 minutes switching it both ways and still did not return to start up screen. It does look like it is trying to change the settings much like it does when you change it from 256 to 512 (i have not tested this change to see if it does the same or not).

Not sure what is different this time though that allowed the offline to work but it is now and I changed nothing and even restarted the game several times before I gave up. The only way to get game to work after changing the settings is to close out the game from either desktop or task manager. then when restarting the game you get the start up screen and can select online or offline and the setting at that time is what was selected when in "video settings".

OK  AFTER FURTHER TESTING

If I wait long enough it comes out of the "big freeze" on its own...... If I go into Task Manager before it comes back on its own  I get the   AH  " not responding"   So  I have NO problems really just need more pataince and DO NOT CHECK TASK MANAGER... JUST Wait and let it come out on its own.....

Are any of you running with any preload options checked?  If so, which ones?

I have them all checked.

To add on my previous post, this also happens if you click on 'Cancel' in the Video Settings window.

Ati 9800 pro 128mb, plug play monitor ( samsung 19 in) 9.0 c

While online and doing fine for a couple of hours the screen went black. Thought I lost vid card. I could still hear game and transmit. Someone said it was a known prob and thought I would have to hit the reset button. Pressed tab alt and back to windows went fine.

Restored Aces and everything was fine till I logged off but expecting it to happen again w/o warning.

I preload textures and run 1152 x 864

Tray tool enabled

Refresh rate ...75 i think  could be lower  60

which driver are you running for your video card? The 9800 needs an old driver CAT 4.12 I think, anything newer and you get colors that turn black all over the place.

Thanks for asking and bringing that up Fugitive. I am using the 4.12

If I was to Participate in trying to solve the problem, what other information would I need to submit Skuzzy?

For me this has only happened once and I do like being able to use my wide screen in game, Thanks HTC. Unfortunately, if it continues to happen or get worse I think the only fix will be to disable it's support, which would be a shame considering so much time and effort was put into it for us.

Mine is doing the same or similar thing.  The screen goes white and will not respond.  I have to exit to desktop and close it down.  It does not do it the same everytime.  If I restart my computer it will come up and work fine.  This problem seemed to start after downloading the updated hires pack.  Prior to that everything was OK.  I downloaded the new version of AHII and ran the game for an hour or two prior to noticing there was an update to the hires pack.  I ran the hires update and the problem started immediately.  I have a Nvidia Geforce 8800 GT driver version 6.14.11.6906.  Hope this does not knock out FSO tonight.  Good luck Skuzzy...we are counting on you brother.

Works great for me @ 1980x1020.  I have HiRez, textures preload to sys memory and 90deg vertical.

Thanks HTC.

I just wonder if the old 4.12 Catalyst drivers have good support for non-standard aspect ratios.  They are a bit older drivers.

It only happened one more times since my last post and it seemed to be a connection problem......Maybe.
I say this because at the moment it happened someone was trying to talk and he repeated himself like 10 times or more then the screen went black. had to hit windows button and back again to fix.

I've been messing around with the different resolutions in the custom area where you can ??? well I'm not exactly sure what that does. 75 is to close 90 looks like the normal non wide screen view. I 'm set on 98  I think right now. It's a little farther out than the normal view i once had.

Can anyone explain how wide screen support works ...or give a link?

i have a 19 in flat by samsung ...920BW to be exact

It is pretty simple actually.

The various screen settings (standard, normal, widescreen....) just manipulate the field of view.  They have nothing to do with resolution.

The proper way to set it up for a wide screen monitor is to first set the resolution to the native resolution the LCD monitor supports, then check the "Widescreen" option, which changes the field of view so it matches a monitor with a 16:10 aspect ratio, which is what most widescreen computer LCD monitors are.
