turn on engine with "e"  then use "q" and "w" for shifting gears up/down, once engine started and in gear, joystick controls it.
Surrounded by suck and underwhelmed with mediocrity.
I'm always right, it just takes some poepl longer to come to that realization than others.

In the control set-up there's mode 1 and mode 2.  Click on mode 2 and then select copy mode 1.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

Assuming you have the controls set up, (if not that's the first thing to look into) you can control the vehicle as Shane describes, to control the turret you need to be in the gunners position.  By default most ground vehicles have three positions, driver, gunner, and commander which you can access by one, two, and three (respectively) on the keyboard.

Once your vehicle is moving you can release the forward pressure on the joystick and it will keep on it's current pace unless something happens to slow you down, while in the gunner or commanders position you can effect turns by using the keys or device that operate the "rudder" axis in airplanes.

There is not a stupid question.  First thing I would recommend, calibrate your Joystick In Windows & then in Aces High.  Second go to the training arena & ask for advice.  Third most are friendly toward new flyers, some are not. :furious .  There are lots of resources available to us, video, articles & trainers.  Use them all & hope to see you in the air.

Really??  Ok how do you get HiTech to let you fly his real RV8 solo without a private pilots license and zero flying experience?

Always go to http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/ first (and bookmark this site)!  Scroll down the left column and click on "Ground Vehicles".
