I don't know if anybody saw this explanation of the 1.02 strat.  http://www.hitechcreations.com/strat.html

I'm pretty stoked!

One thing I would like to see:

An incentive for resets.

A medal, a point bonus, or something.

Let's keep track of the number of resets for each tour.  Somewhere on the score pages put a counter to show each country's totals for the tour.

At the end of the tour, put something on the message of the day.  "XXXXX Wins Tour #3" where XXXXX is the country with the most resets during that tour.

Yes!

Now it is imperative to knock down:

  • acks
  • fighter hangars
  • bomber hangars

The fuel and ammo at bases can (and in most cases should) be ignored. In that manner a more-or-less intact field can be taken.

What I didn't see was the spawn points for mobile ack (M16) or tanks.

Overall a great direction.

Says Vehicle Hangars are a Field Strat Group target, and destroying them disables vehicles at that field.

I hadn't seen this before, and now it brings some interesting tactics to the forefront.

Use 17's for strategic (i.e country targets).

Use the 26's for the low-level, get-in get-out fast bombing of the field assets (and country assets too) and then clean up with the jabo boys.  Close the field and bring on the goons.

I know we can do that know, but the unlimited supply of planes spawning with no way of denying that ability hinders this strat model.  With the advent of taking down the hangars and vehicle garages, strat will be a major player now.

And not just offensive strat, but defensive strat as well, because now we have real targets to defend (and I bet those plane hangars will get defended bitterly).

The country's with the more organized squads and cooperation between the squads should fair the best IMO.  I can see offensive strikes needing escort, while at the same time defensive Fighter sweeps will need to be maintained to protect the home assets.

Looks promising (as if this sim isn't fun enough already!)

This will be true, but sheer numbers will still mean a lot.  I would love to see AI ack strength vary inversely with a country's player numbers.  This would make a weakly defended country harder to gang bang, force country's with high numbers to devote some to defense, and make "off hours" capture of undefended fields more difficult.

Popeye-

D'oh!

"hehe, that wasn't there before, I would have seen it. Yeah, that's it, someone trying to make me look bad. Couldn't be my fault!"

I should read closer, eh?

My worry is that this will enable 1 B17 to completely shut down an airfield.  Drop the first bomb on the hangar.. the second on the vehicle depot... and then level everything else.  Voila.. fly a 47 right in without fear of defense.

Dejavu,

Guess it depends on how many bombs it takes to kill a hangar, and how many hangars there are at the field.

Somehow, I suspect that HTC has thought of this....

Now if there was to be 8.8cm flak with radar fusing, let that lone '17 come on

Don't we already have this now?

A b26 kills the acks and lands at the spawn point.... C47 fly's in and lands next to the bunker and lets the drunks out.

Same result and less bombs..
But I guess the way it is now, takes 2 pilots.

Flak wasn't very useful against single planes unless you had a LOT of guns.  Since I don't think any of use really likes to fight robo-AI-flak, the best way to keep the bombers in check is to implement a realistic Norden bombsight.  No more plinking single targets from 35k.

The downside to seeing stats kept for resets is the number of times that a team has less then 5 pilots.  The other 2 teams just keep grabbin land and forcing resets and the stats get lopsided really quickly.

If the 'winning' team was the one with the most fields (regardless of who took the last), then you would see a habit of teaming against the stronger team develop.  It would be in the interests of both lesser teams to keep the strongest from winning.
