Self Sealing Fuel Tanks

it seems every time i enter a fight i have to rtb because of a fuel  leak.  didnt american planes have these??

My guess is you got a hole in the tank too big to be sealed.

If there is a quantifiable difference in the probability of getting either fuel leaks or fires in planes that have self-sealing tanks vs. those that don't, I haven't seen it in actual play. I suppose I will have to break down and try to test it more scientifically at some point.
