How do I work the mission editor?
« on: October 23, 2008, 05:49:10 PM »
I am trying to make a mission of wildcats/dauntlesses vs. zeros and I was wanting to have the US planes takeoff from the japan_1 map. I have read all the help file's contents and followed it's intructions, but I can't even get the zero's to takeoff properly. What am I missing? Hats off to the maker of "The Great Mariana's Turkey Shoot". He sort of inspired this urge. Thanks for any responses!

Have you tried using this tutorial to build your mission. Alot of people found it more helpful than the one in the help file.

http://files.filefront.com/ME+tutorialdoc/;10065225;/fileinfo.html

Other than that you need to let us know what the planes are doing instead of taking off. Maybe even post up what you have so far and we can take a look at it for you and help that way.

I do suggest though trying the above tutorial and see if that helps you at all.

I just looked at it and I think you forgot to set the spawnpointfor your zeros. I did that and they took off with no problem.

The other thing I noticed in your waypoints are that some of them have 0.0 for speed and they are cruise. This may cause a problem.

see if that helps

How would I go about taking off the US group from a moving carrier? I think it would be possible, but I haven't a clue how to get started. Thanks for your advice. I fixed the starting point and recalculated some of the waypoints, but I couldn't find any cruises marked at 0.0 mph. Which waypoints were they? I went through all of mine and didn't see any cruises under 160.0 mph.

There is no way to have a mission take off from a carrier with the ME. At least not yet , hopefully soon though.

As far as the waypoints that are set to 0 mph here is the list from the zero's waypoints
#5, #6, #7, #9, #10, #11, #12, #13, #14, #15, #16

The wildcats look ok as far as the speed is concerned.

I don't know if setting those to 0 will effect the mission or not but it may change how the 2 flights meet each other or it may cause the zeros to fly strangely. Again I am not really sure how it would effect your mission it may not effect it at all.

The tutorial found inside the Mission Editor is all you need to make a working mission.  Just read it slowly and go step by step.  That's what I used to make my first mission "Raiders of the Rising Sun".  Once you build one mission correctly, it's real easy to start building others as the basics will always be the same (flights, waypoints, segments, etc.)  The first time I read the tutorial I rushed through it and messed stuff up.  Once I took the time to read it step by step, it was no problem.

Those are the links that I put in there a while back. Both of those have been deleted. Filefront has gone through some management changes in the last several months and I did not keep up with my files so they were deleted.

I will get the files put back on but through a new site hopefully tomorrow, but thanks for reminding me that I did that.

Ok here is the new link to the .doc version.

http://www.mediafire.com/file/tuj0yimj2tq/ME tutorial.doc

Thankfully I had a copy saved in a couple of different places and was able to find them. Stalwart, I think it was you that converted it over to pdf the last time. If you can do that again I think it will be a big help to those that do not have the ability to read the other files.

Thanks

you can make a mission with planes taking off from a cv,you just have to make sure the spawn point is good and you have enough room to take, however you cannot move the cv/tg from its default position.
