Last night saw the action and the numbers cranked up a bit. Although the Luftwaffe was working hard at it, the British dogs seem to have the upper hand. Our Glorious warriors went after them time and time again however they were brutally attacked by the likes of pilots like VWE and N72.

Battles were furious and epic. Oldman joined the fray later on in the evening after his wife let him off the leash for a little bit hehehe sorry oldman  :) It was Great fun.

The number were up and the sides always seemed pretty equal. even the quality of pilots seemed pretty equal with both experienced and inexperienced pilots.

So far its been a blast in there since "said Squad" left the arena. if you want to try something new, come in and check it out.

remember, most of the guys flying are pretty experienced and you will see some real quality fighting. we try not to ho and try to keep MA tactics to a minimum. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen, just means we try not to. if you really want to learn some ACM, come down and we're happy to help teach you.

anyway its been great fun and a great learning experience in there. hope to see everyone tonight. if we get enough people maybe we can put up a large mission later in the evening.   :salute to all

Good fun in there last nite. The 353rd showed up to take of the German horde, resulting in several good fights. TK continues to terrorize Allied pilots, but they were equal to the task and continued to take to the air to defend our Isle.

200 continues to be civil as many pilots are now joining to see what they can learn from the Axis's top AvA Squad. Fights are usually below 5,000 feet over the channel, and usually end up being quite brutal affairs between individual pilots. It's great to see pilots respecting other player's individual fights, as well as good clean initial merges.

54's pilots have been exceptional in offering advice for those who are really trying to learn and improve their skills. Who knows? They may even let you in on the secret of that instant turn........ :rock

you mean the one where you  miss ur guns pass and all a sudden he's on your tail?  nothing more than a  slight turn and roll out then roll back in as they overshoot.  it's all about timing, especially in obtaining a shot oppt'y afterwards.

there's also a variation that involves a little more turning....defensively, as the bogey gets around 800 out (in AvA w/weaker guns) you turn back into the bogey on your tail and as you merge, you're re-turning back onto the bogey who is starting his extension from the pass.  timed right you can end up fairly close on their 6 with a shot that might pressure them into turning.  imagine a tight "S" inside of a "U."

both situations are all about speed management.


i was playing around with Larry, my 109 vs his otd hurri...  i repeatedly buzzed him for a while, and he'd do teh roll out and back in... i'd evade and rinse wash repeat.. til finally after i got bored of toying with the hurri, i dropped down in the pursuit slot and as i closed aroudn 800 behind him, i eased up on throttle... since our speeds were more comparable (and i was anticipating that defensive rollout) all i had to do was slow down even more and as he made that move around 400... it wasn't too hard to pull into him for the shot as our speeds were similar. this occurs around 8:30 in the film.

in the film of this encounter (9 mins, lol) you'll see larry perform that rollout/back manuever multiple times, occasionally latching close enough to force me to waste a little time extending and alting again. i used the 109's speed advantage, refusing to go into stick-to-tummy turning where the hurri has the advantage, especially on the deck. i can tnb w/hurris, yeah, win some, lose some, but my point in this encounter was to get inside larry's head, lol.  i was in no particular "hurri"  - heh - to kill him,  but you can see how easy it could be for me to make a mistake and end up with a tail full of lead.  the *key* to defeating this is to either take ur time, or more riskier, as you're closing in on the bogey, cut your speed in anticipation and drop right in on their 6... and don't miss.

watch it in fixed with pan and zoomed out w/trails on so you can literally see the moves better.  once you do that a few times, jump into one of the planes and see it from their perspective - more or less.

Thank you much! I'm hoping I can take what I'm learning and translate it into success in the next couple of FSO's. Been having quite a dry spell there. Especially when when our old nemesis JG11 shows up.....their skill and numbers are almost impossible to overcome. (They usually have a 2:1 advantage over us)

Next big training item will be wingman tactics, now that the individual skills are getting sharper.

Nice flying shane.  I'm glad to see you mimic the same careful tactics that I used the other night when you "yawned." :D  It was a shame those two others showed up.

JG11 is currently forgoing the AvA for the main arena because there aren't enough people to oppose us when we show up in squad strength and wish to fly together.  I'm sure Stampf would love to bring the squad back if there's enough opposition on the allied side. :salute

Oh, I wasn't even intending that as a drag.  Was just trying to extend and get alt like you did to Larry.  Very nice flying though, I like the vertical move you did to cut inside his turn.

in retrospect (found the film) ur right, it didn't seem to be a deliberate drag, but at the time it was occurring, it looked like it.

Larry and Shane are two of the best pilots you'll ever run into in AvA - they'll teach you a bunch as they kill you over and over and over again :)
