Manual Views without Pan
« on: November 05, 2008, 10:43:35 AM »
As the subject says is there a way to have views stay where you put them until pressing forward(8) again on the hat?

Not to my knowledge, short of using TrackIR.

Learn to master the snap views. Panning leads to target lock, which leads to loss of SA which leads to death.
That path  dark side leads to. Be aware of your surroundings, all of them.

Learn to do a 1/2 second 360 degree scan every few seconds.
If you see the red flash of an icon, then go back for a quick glance to see

A what it is
B where it is
C how close it is
And based all all those, how much time do I have?
And do I have to change my flight path to deal with it?

Two reasons for asking.

1. To get longer views without having to hold the button

2. To be able to adjust views easier.  I have look up just below the hat which leaves a free hand to adjust but look down I have on the throttle so unless I use my nose on the keyboard...  :uhoh  I suppose I could change the look down temporarily to adjust when setting up but that will be a pain with every plane.

Using ST290Pro and X35t throttle (pitch pot on X36 is going bad)

I do rush my scans and should try and slow them down.

You can adjust each view in each plane separately and save them so you wont have to adjust them again.
Use a view and adjust it and then hit the F10 key to save that view setting. Hitting Home and then F10 will restore the default view.

I realize that, but it will be a project to modify all the look down views for all the aircraft.

You could download Murdr's Head Positions. He keeps them up to date with the plane upgrades. You can also use the number pad to view your views and set them there. I can hold a number of the number keys down to get the views with one hand while adjusting them and saving them with the other.

I know what you mean...I go through the views on each takeoff to make sure they are set they way I like. Takes a few seconds each sortie, but when I come across a plane I haven't flown I just set them up. The real fun is when you make a change in 1 bird and like it, now you have to go through the whole process again.

I have dowloaded the murdr files in the past and ended up changing a lot of them.

I have a laptop so I'd have to plug in a numeric keypad.

The main thing is I'd like to be able to look and not have to hold the hat.

If you press F8 you  can keep the view as you like, press F1 to snapview again, press home-key for default forward view

I think this is what you're looking for?

F8 swtiches to pan which would work I suppose if it was a pan/snap toggle.  Leaving it in pan mode makes the hat move the view around too slowly for my taste, and it also changes the hat from directional to pitch and yaw IIRC.  For it to work the way I'd like using your suggestion would require macro programming.  Example to look to the rear would be hat back(keypad 2) and F8 to switch to pan while back there to hold it, but I'd have to release the hat quickly as the view starts pitching up due to pan mode.  Then to snap back to the front would be F7(snap) and hat forward(keypad 8).
