My grandfather was in the 873rd Engineer Aviation Bn. in the Pacific. My mom told me his job was to go in and secure Japanese airfields after they had been bombed by our bombers and rebuild the airfields for US planes to use. All the Japanese would run and hide in the jungle and the 873rd had to watch out for any Japanese snipers or groups of Japanese soldiers ready to fight back.

He was trained to fly in by glider, but couldn't because of all the jungle.

His name is underlined (E.Stack). Second row, 2nd to last, with his arm around another guy.

Here are a couple pics he took:

Grandfather is the one on the right

Grandfather in front of p38

Grandfather in front of p51's (not sure what the first plane is)

My other grandfather was in the Korean War, but I don't have any pictures of him there :(
Enjoy :)

Jack16, that unknown plane is a recon version of the P38. The nose has cameras instead of guns and it has a side lens so pictures can be taken to the side of the target instead of directly over it.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Oh boy where do I start, let's go with me and work backwords:
USMC 2002 - 2006
Paternal Grandfather USN Korea on an Oiler, need to find name
Maternal Grandfather USN WWII flew PBY's can't get any info since he's deceased

way back on my Paternal Grandmother's side I know for a fact a few
Nathaniel Terry French & Indian Wars Capt. of Rangers, first Sheriff of my county, member of VA House of Burgesses & Delegates during Revolutionary War, reported to be a Col. during Revolutionary War fighting at Yorktown as was an aide of Gen. Washington
Nathaniel Terry Jr. Capt during Revolutionary War, captured at Charlestown
Nathaniel Berryman Greene (married Nathaniel Terry's daugher) Capt. Revolutionary War was Gen. Washington's Quartermaster that came into Valley Forge to aid him in relieving the suffering of the army there
William Terry son of Nathaniel (Sr.) Revolutionary War soldier, rank unknown
There are others from the War of 1812, Civil War, and I'm sure WWI and more but it would take a while to find them, these I know of.

My Grandfather Julien Palien flew in the 97th Bomb Group, 347th Squadron.  He filled different roles including flight engineer, gunner, or bombadier.

I'll try to get some scans of good pictures to share sometime.

<S> to all for sharing.

Sir Francis, I would like some info on your grandfather if you have it like unit, aircraft he flew.  I've got a hunch we might know some folks that flew against him if he was over Russia.
