I knew someone was going to say something like this. The objection here is not simply about speeding but about reckless driving and bad decision making. Personally I'm the 5 under type of driver, but have no problem speeding a little here and there. Sometimes, for example on a posted 65mph highway where everyone is doing 75, a little speeding might even be safer.

This type of driving, however, is just stupid and selfish. Diablo, nobody is trying to tell you how to live your life, we are simply asking you consider other peoples lives. To think you are not putting other people in danger is just arrogant, nobody is that good of a driver. You could have a simple tire blowout and easily plow into one of those houses on the side of the road. As far as someone telling you how to live your life, if you keep driving like this someone WILL tell you how to live your life, either from behind bars or from under the ground. Your personal freedoms end where other peoples freedoms begin, something some people don't learn until its too late.

Its all about calculated risks and discretion my friend. There are plenty of ways to have fun like this without putting other people in danger. Take your own brothers for example, skydriving and flying gliders, great fun, fairly high risk compared to average activities, yet very calculated and with little or no danger to other people. I doubt anyone here would have had anything bad to say if this was a skydiving or gliding video, even though those can be just as dangerous.

Your initial comments, over-defensiveness, and insults to other people prove to me that you ALREADY KNOW what you did was wrong. Did you post here looking for some kind of validation? Considering the crowd here, mostly mature family types, that was mistake number two.

LOL.  Yeah, it's exactly the same thing.  I'll save my explanation that the amount of energy in a collision increases in porportion to the square of the velocity at the time of collision for my 3 year old niece.  I have a better chance of the concept being grasped.

Thank god I was the only 1 seriously hurt, 2 guys in the car with me walk away miraculously.  It was a road we all thought it was safe to speed down because it was out of the way with almost no traffic, there were houses lining one side of the road, but just trees on the left(the side I went off thankfully).  I can't even be in a car that starts to approach those speeds anymore or it freaks me out.  Believe me there is nothing that will scare you more then losing control of a car over 100+mph, so like I said before if you drive those speeds just make sure your willing to deal with what can possibly happen.

BTW Diablo in the 10 years in the Navy didn't they teach you something about dangerous attitudes and how to recognize them in yourself? I assumed this was a big part of the training of our solders. I learned it in flight training and again in the fundamentals of instruction, not sure how different it is in other training, but you are a classic example of the dangerous attitude of "Anti-authority" and a little "Invulnerability". You have the classic "don't tell me what to do" attitude and back it up with "nothing bad can happen to me".

There is no point arguing with you until you can understand these traits and come to terms with them yourself. Many people simply can not do this. However if you can do this, and understand your own weaknesses, you'll be able to take your own risk taking and decision making to the next level. This is the type of clear headed thinking and understanding needed to take large risks, like flying high performance aircraft or racing cars. There is a big difference in the risks you see people like this take and the thoughtless risks you are taking yourself. Nobody can tell you what to do, the only way to bridge that gap is to understand your own weaknesses and figure out how to address them, then you will know how your own attitudes effect the decisions you make, and only then will you be able to make better decisions.

Diablo, you don't have a leg to stand on in this argument.  You, yourself called it "a 'tard thing to do".  I agree with you whole-heartedly.  I also agree with Moray.  The bottom line is, don't have your fun at the expense of others.  What you did is no different than what happened in the very same part of Texas not too long ago with fools and high-powered rifles.  You probably remember, they were having some innocent target practice in their backyard without a proper way to stop the bullets.  One of the bullets hit a guy a good distance away and killed him.  They got arrested.  Serves them right.   Nothing wrong with rifles, just like there is nothing wrong with fast cars.  However, when you point a gun or a car that is on the verge of being out of control in someone else's direction, you're being a fool.  My wife, family and I drive those very roads and I would appreciate it if you wouldn't point your car in our direction.

Oh yeah, and the whole thing about "don't tell me how to live my life".  That has been around for a long time.  It's called the law.  It is put in place to protect the general public from people who need to be regulated because they can't regulate themselves.  Maybe we can't tell you what to do.  You are right about that.  (About the only thing you are right about in this whole thread).  However, I do have a little hope in my heart that a guy in a black and white car with colorful lights on top catches you and hands you over to someone who will regulate you.

P.S.  I almost deleted this whole thing b/c I thought to myself, "Ah, it doesn't make any difference anyway, why get into it?"  Then I looked back at your tone and language toward Moray calling him an idiot etc, etc, etc (and he may be in other threads - I really don't keep up with all of that and don't know how the community sees him - don't really care, however in this thread he is 100% correct).  So, I figured I'd go ahead and post it just to add one more post to tip the scales out of your favor and to plant myself firmly in Moray's corner.

Couldnt have summed it up any better, I had a very near and dear Aunt killed by guys that were racing, one of the cars came over a blind hill and T-Boned her Jeep CJ, her legs were severed near the hip. She had about 3 minutes to live (knowing she was going to die)  as her life poured out of her Femoral artery on to her lap.

You read only what you want to read. This argument is not about speeding, it is about extremely reckless driving on small country roads. Its about poor decision making. Do you know the definition of hypocrite? I've gone over the speed limit in some situations, I have NOT driven 110mph+ down a winding residential road. I can comment on this guys poor decision making abilities, yet that does not make me a hypocrite.

I called my niece.  As I expected, she understood completely.  She also pointed out, in a somewhat philosophical manner, a thought experiment in a sense, that whenever an object moves through space, it is a result of collisions in one manner or another.  She made the point more salient to this situation by pointing out that an automobile is a perfect example of this phenomena as billions of tiny collisions are the result of, and the factor in, the velocity that a car experiences as it moves through space.  She pointed out that these tiny collisions are made more violent by the proportion of the square of the velocity of the system and this in turn makes the situation more difficult to control in proportion to the square of the velocity.  I think she makes a good point when she says that your being out of control increases with the proportion of the square of the velocity and therefore your irresponsibility increases the same amount.  She pointed out, in summary, that when her uncle drives 70mph instead of 65mph he is 25 times more irresponsible than the guy that drives 65mph.  She said that a person driving 110mph instead  of 65mph is 2025 times more irresponsible.  In final summary, you are 2000 times more irreponsible than me.  That is all according to my niece, she is only 3, so she still has a lot to learn.

EDIT:  Actually, I just realized, it's worse than that b/c my niece squared the difference rather than taking the difference of the squares.  It should be 675 instead of 25 and 7200 instead of 2000.  She's only 3.  She can make a subtle mistake.
