As real as it gets.....or too real?
« on: November 28, 2008, 09:30:58 AM »
Considering how engrossing this game can be at times even with moderate graphics and how it can swallow up large chunks of your life without you realising, what would happen if the experience was so real you couldnt distingush between reality and the game?
I truely beleive that its only a matter of time or maybe processing power until that becomes a reality the techniques for things like photon tracing have been around for years only the horsepower to render them has been missing. One day the ability to simulate the real world will be cheap and affordable.
I think not just with this game but gaming in general people are kinda buggering off into their own little realitys, its one of the biggest industrys on earth will people one day just not bother with real life except to keep themselfes alive to play a game more? sad but possibly true...

wasnt really thinkin of the matrix as such mate more the extremely addictive and varied gameplay in aces high and if it was coupled with near perfect realism.

Years back there was a lot of hype about virtual reality, i was playing Falcon 3 back then and i thought VR would be awesome for a flight sim.

The ability to look around the cockpit and the sky like we would in a real fighter was an interesting concept. Sadly it just faded away. :cry

Back then the graphics where poor and the devices very bulky, if development had continued i think Aces high would be a little different.
I fly Spits because I'm  Brit, It's in our DNA to fly Spits.

:rofl I remember falcon on my atari st and that really annoying warning warning warning. And the first time I used my sidewinder ff2 i was like (shocked) i'm in a plane! the feeling lasted about 4 mins 3 seconds your right it does fade  :D I think the whole VR thing back then was majorly limited by the hardware at the time even now theres not really a huge difference with these headsets except for image resolution. Completly simulating an entire field of view with a headset so good that you cant tell the difference might well be something thats never acheived. And how the hell would you know where your ciggys and beer are with that thing on  :rofl :rofl
