Your greatest fight in AH
« on: December 03, 2008, 11:18:56 AM »
After looking at the 3 on 1 post got to thinking about a few fights that were my personal best.

One that sticks out was a blast in a FM2, a few of the old squaddies were holed up in a VH in and in danger of being stomped by an 110 with 2 nik escorts for CAP. This was the most amazing fight Ive ever had 1 on 3.

Out gunned, numbered and on a what the h#ll run I got there just in time to take out the 110, then for the next 5 Min's of reversing and baiting (a move Furball taught me) I was able to knock down the 2 N1k's.

As i taxied to the VH the engine sputtered, coughed and quit no gas, but had 3 in the bag. Right there after that flight was when the light clicked if you put the basics together it could work (allthough a lot of luck helps too).

So what was your most memorable flight?

Well the one that has been sticking out in my head is.  I upped a 109 (which I never use) to intercept the rook bombing mission.  Climbed for like 15-20 minutes to 25-30k and started searching for bombers.

Low and be hold I find a straggler.  I spend the next 10 minutes setting up to get a nice wing root shot or something close.

It was nice and quite,  just him and I....  I start to close the distance...  His plane has not even twitched an inch.  I thought great...  This is going to be easy.

As soon as I am 400 out my finger starts to depress the trigger....  and...  !!!BANG!!!  his rear gunner killed my engine in two maybe three shots.

So I float down for 10 minutes and land.  I was to say the least disappointed.

You know though,  I was pretty immersed and my blood was pumping during the set up.  Just wish I would've won that match up.

My first adrenaline pumper in Aces High was with Baldeagl.  I was RTB low fuel from dropping ords on a troubling V base.  I was around 3-5k feet and stretching the fuel in my Hellcat.  I saw no red dar, so stupid me got up to get some munchies.  I was gone for no more than a minute and I pull the headphones back on to hear my squaddie UH60A hollering "Way watch that 190!"  Now the blood is flowing...  I cranked up my RPM's and throttle and turned up into him.  I got him to blow his first pass so I figured I have very little fuel so I have to convince him to turn with me.  Which he did.  It went back and forth round and round, up and down for a good 4-5 minutes.  Both of us landed some hits, but no kill shots.  I was actually 2-3 notches of flaps at times trying to husband my gas and keep it slow and inside his radius.  Well the next thing you know I hear the sound we all hate.  Nothing, as my engine runs outta gas and spins down.  I nosed down going for a ditch.  I was gonna land it, but I thought that this fellow (whoever he is) deserves the kill.  He agreed (LOL) because the last thing I saw before the tower was a 190 bearing down on my position guns blazing...

theres one for me that stands out, a fight in the DA.. Me, trundling along in my hurri when 7 rooks closed in on me... Went on the offensive and managed to bag 4 before I ran outa ammo (im a rubbish shot), dove to the deck looking for an escape route with the remaing 3 (a spit, a p38 and something else) on my tail, twisting, turning, scissoring and runing for my life, deseratly dodging bullets. For a moment I thought I might make it to some kinda safety untill I began to run out of control surfaces and I got chewed up...Hitech(THE hitech? surely not?) got the kill eventually. I was buzzing off the adrenaline afterwards, even tho I know I made a lot of mistakes and was probably lucky to do as well as I did, and I was blessed that the hurricane can soak up such punishment and dish it out so well!

A while back it was me against 6 109's in the AVA when they first switched it over from the old CT arena.

I was in a Hurri 1 climbing out from my base when I spotted two 109's co-alt and coming in fast. I dove under them and after several reversals we were on the deck. By the way they flew I knew they were coordinated so I worked at getting both of them out in front of me at the same time. At this time I spotted another pair of 109's inbound, and thought to myself, well I'll be in the tower shortly.

I gained the six of one 109 while his partner worked to get on my six and the other two closed in. Got within 200, turned on the sawzall, and the 109's wing departed the airframe. The second 109 was now closing on my six and I dumped my nose, stalled my engine, and forced the overshoot. I pulled the nose up as he passed over me and managed to remove half of his wing. As he fought to regain control of his aircraft I removed half of his other wing. In he went, two down, two to go. At this point I was amazed that I had not only survived, but that I'd gotten two kills.

I was low and slow as the second pair came in. Thankfully they weren't as coordinated as the previous pair so I quickly managed to get them in front of me where I could work on gaining their six.  I'd been taught early on to aim small, ie: don't aim at the whole airplane, but at a piece of the airplane, such as a wing root or the canopy. The third 109 died in a crossing shot when I filled his cockpit with lead from 8 303's.

I believe at this time the 4th 109 pilot was getting a bit concerned as he seemed rather cautious in his subsequent attacks. As I moved in to work on him I spotted two more 109's inbound, most likely the first pair of pilots I'd encountered returning for revenge. I gained the 109's six and removed a wing with my little sawzall just as the fifth 109 pilot dove in on me. I jinked right, he overshot, and lawndarted. I jinked left to dodge his partner and slammed into a freaking tree.

I had to get up and walk away from my computer I was shaking so bad from the adrenalin. I've had some other memorable fights since then, but this one stands out in my mind as the best one.

SADS vs myself.   I still mention it to him every now and then and he remembers.    Class fight, class guy and not a single excuse.   He shot me down to boot.

<<S>> Sads, I wish you flew more than you used too.

I was in a pony vs. pony fight last summer. I upped and started climbing. I got to about 15k I guess and this other pony showed up on radar. We moved to engage each other and we got into a turning fight. We were on the verge of stalling out, with 50% flaps at times. I managed to get a few hits on his wing before he misjudged his altitude and crashed into a mountain side. We saluted each other and went on our way. Another fight I like to recall is when I went searching for bombers in my F4U-1A. I flew across the ocean on the map that I was playing on and I found a formation of 3 B-17s. I proceeded to shoot them down in a conservative, smart manner and I returned to base with three kills and no damage.

Recently, Soulyss and I had a nice Spit1 vs 38 fight. Far back...I was in a Spit16 vs P40D40...me in the D40. Was a stall fight and I had my gear out the whole time bouncing off the ground. In the end we both actually ran out of gas.

mine almost all happened in the DA vs Creton or Nomak.  The one from the AM that stands out was against RumbleB(ki84) with me in a K4 (may of been G14)...quite a fight and surprised it was allowed to go on.
