The start of offensive ops must be on the basis of a firm TOT (time on target). This allows all squads to plan and execute appropriately to make the posted TOT. Relying on one person to give the go invites disaster. If that one person discos at the wrong time or has VOX issues, the whole operation is thrown into chaos. Just a thought and input from one who has done this real world.
My first response did not come out the way I wanted it too.
Puma,
A lot of what we (CM Team) do in these events, does not make good sense from a tactical or strategic point of view. That is way I try not to be a CiC very often, as my main focus, when I am, is making sure that both sides are going to have a good time. And that is not usually the best recipe for my side to "win". But as a long time CM (almost all of it in FSO) that is the way I have come to be. My main focus is making sure that BOTH sides are going to have a good fight, and sometimes to do that you have to sacrifice good strategic moves for ones that make sure the other side is going to see some good action. The problem with that from most FSO players view, is "good action" means that your side is going to probably suffer more losses than if you were sneaky and made good tactical decisions.
Case in point, when the T+60 rule was implemented there was a torrent of complaints that we were limiting the ability of the CiC's to use good strategy in an ability to limit their losses while ensuring the most damage to the enemy. But what a lot of people missed was the fact that as the designers of these events, we the CM Team are not interested in making sure that one side is able to "stomp" the other side with out suffering to many losses. Quite the opposite, we want both sides to suffer high losses and the scoring to be very close, in most cases this means that both sides saw good action and had a good time.
I think my response is going beyond the point you were trying to make. To be more direct to your point. This event is Nef's design so it is up to him which method is to be used, A "Go" from 4X or T+60 on the clock. I may be wrong but I think he is fine with either one. I know the one thing he does NOT want is the VH's bombed before the GV's even have the chance to spawn. That might make the best strategic sense, but it is not going to make the best "fun for both sides" sense.
Sorry for the some what "tangent" response.
