Rule Reminder for A Long December
« on: December 07, 2008, 08:47:46 PM »
It was clearly stipulated in the rules that the GV bases were not to be hit before T+60.

Both sides were in violation of this rule in frame 1 and as a result the CM's were forced to to re-build some of the Vehicle hangars at the Ardennes bases.

If this happens again, the bases will be rebuilt and heavy penalties will be enforced for attacking these bases.

As a rule of thumb for frame 2 & 3, as soon as the setup CM (4XTCH) mentions that GVs are up, the bases are open for attack. If they are attacked prior to this call then strict penalties will be enforced.

Thanks, Nef.

PS. Objectives are out, and Scores will be out tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Let me remind everyone that there are CLOCKS in all of the AC. (except for one or two)

They all read the same in the SEA, there is no reason to be attacking a base early.

See!  Now matter how long you've played this game, and when you thought you knew it all, you suddenly learn something new.

Clock in the cockpit.  Who'd of thunk it.    :rofl

My good reliable buddy VOX and I take responsibility for the early Allied drops.  The next time I am tasked with CIC duty I may want to assign some of the squads TOTs.  So I am clear, what is +60 referring too? 60 minutes past 10o’clock central… 60 minutes from when the fields were open?  Thanks,

T+60 refers to 60min after start of frame.

The best is to watch for the set-up CM (4XTCH in this case) to give to "GO" for the GV's. Once that is done then all attacks may take place.

The start of offensive ops must be on the basis of a firm TOT (time on target).  This allows all squads to plan and execute appropriately to make the posted TOT.  Relying on one person to give the go invites disaster.  If that one person discos at the wrong time or has VOX issues, the whole operation is thrown into chaos. Just a thought and input from one who has done this real world.   :salute

My first response did not come out the way I wanted it too.

Puma,

A lot of what we (CM Team) do in these events, does not make good sense from a tactical or strategic point of view. That is way I try not to be a CiC very often, as my main focus, when I am, is making sure that both sides are going to have a good time. And that is not usually the best recipe for my side to "win". But as a long time CM (almost all of it in FSO) that is the way I have come to be. My main focus is making sure that BOTH sides are going to have a good fight, and sometimes to do that you have to sacrifice good strategic moves for ones that make sure the other side is going to see some good action. The problem with that from most FSO players view, is "good action" means that your side is going to probably suffer more losses than if you were sneaky and made good tactical decisions.

Case in point, when the T+60 rule was implemented there was a torrent of complaints that we were limiting the ability of the CiC's to use good strategy in an ability to limit their losses while ensuring the most damage to the enemy. But what a lot of people missed was the fact that as the designers of these events, we the CM Team are not interested in making sure that one side is able to "stomp" the other side with out suffering to many losses. Quite the opposite, we want both sides to suffer high losses and the scoring to be very close, in most cases this means that both sides saw good action and had a good time.

I think my response is going beyond the point you were trying to make. To be more direct to your point. This event is Nef's design so it is up to him which method is to be used, A "Go" from 4X or T+60 on the clock. I may be wrong but I think he is fine with either one. I know the one thing he does NOT want is the VH's bombed before the GV's even have the chance to spawn. That might make the best strategic sense, but it is not going to make the best "fun for both sides" sense.

Sorry for the some what "tangent" response. :aok

Sled,
I understand where you are coming from and realize there is a great deal of planning involved to pull these FSOs off.  My point is only to influence some reality into the timing aspect of FSO.  We all enjoy the real world modeling of AH2.  Therefore, to mirror the real world in FSO, an assigned TOT would hold squads to a hard execution time and require some level of planning and organization to achieve that.  Just as in the real world, miss your TOT and you miss opportunities for mutual support, etc.  Without it, we are essentially in a "same way, same day" situation.  That being said, I appreciate the hard work and planning you at the command level do every week.  It is still just plain fun!   :salute
