can anyone identifiy what vehicle this road wheel goes to?
 (please serious answers only, no oh well it looks lit it goes to this tank... bla bla bla)

the best I could figure of it is that it might be from one of the models of tiger

Since when was German tank parts made in the USA? It says continental right on it. Try finding a picture of a vehicle with this type of wheel on it and go from there.

Continental AG is a German company founded 1871 in Hannover.

And the measurment numbers on it seem indeed to be metric.

That's what I thought when I saw the continental on it too.  It also has the circle-A stamp on it in one of those pictures, which I'm pretty sure is from a North American based steel company/foundry (don't have a clue to it's name/owner).

Ah, so then I wonder where that circle-A on it is from?  It seems familiar to me.

My educated guess would be a Panther. Its smoothly concave and has a single row of six lugs (rivets?), where the Tigers have concentric ridges and two spread out rows of rivets.

If its not an actual Panther, its one of its derivitives.

It could be from a panther, but seems to be missing more of an outer rim.


Oh, I just found a really close match.

That's a Tiger I Ausf. E
All the Tiger II (King Tiger) wheeles I can find have a lot more rivits in them.  But quite a few of the Tiger I varient pictures I'm looking at have the "panther-like" wheeles, just missing that wide outer rim the panther tanks had.

Honestly I thought all the Tiger wheeles were riveted too (like in your pictures).  Then I read something while skimming through an article on a Panther about how many of the parts on the concept design of the Panther II were to be interchangable with Tiger I parts.  Since all the pictures of Panther wheeles up until then looked similar but not precisely what we were looking for (that wide non-conclave rim the panther had), I went through some Tiger photos.  Some of the Tiger I wheeles look like what were looking for (conclave with a narrower rim than the panther's), and the Tiger II wheeles definetley seem to be the riveted wheeles you pictured.

I didn't pour through any of the Panzer or StuG photos though, could just as well be from one of those too, this is just the first similarity I stumbled on.

take a look at the jagdpanther wheels, it kind of looks like those also, if I am not mistaken it looks like it was used for something after the war because the center looks like it was replaced and I can't figure out why the rubber on it is so rounded, also take a look at this link:

what does this one look like?

it too looks like the center was replaced and it also was used after the war for something else because the rubber is worn away again
