I know this is a topic that has been discussed several times before, but a little direct input from the Hitech staff may answer our requests/demands.
Landing Ship Tanks or Landing Craft Tanks would greatly add to the realism of planning or taking sea based airfields/ports. This has been a topic that has been bounced off the bulletin board since 2004, and we are asking if it is feasible.
Many of the arena maps are island based and I believe that adding some more compliments to a CV group would enhance the game play, increase interest to those that see complacency in the game, and possibly spark new tactical interest. The LSTs could be assigned to a CV group (possibly 4-6 ships per group.) and they would be independently controlled once the CV group leader releases them/spawns them.
The LST is heavily armed and I think it would be able to defend its way ashore as long as it was supported with some form of air cover, hence the realism of tactical coordination with aircraft etc:
Armament:
• 1 × 3 in (76 mm) gun
• 6 × 40 mm guns
• 6 × 20 mm guns
• 2 × .50 cal (12.7 mm) machine guns
• 4 × .30 cal (7.62 mm) machine guns
If LST’s are not possible, Could the following be an option:
Could it be possible when a CV group is close enough to shore, it could create a spawn point for LCT's to spawn alongside LVTs and make their way to the shore. They could introduce armor or configure them with Jeeps for Field supplies etc. Once their ramps drop 10-20 troops could automatically begin their long run if you wanted to be creative, you could even do the following:
LCTs were converted into floating AA batteries, the LCT(4) conversions receiving the new designation LCF(4) "Landing Craft, Flak" and so forth. Some LCTs were fitted with guns or rockets (the later becoming Landing Craft, Tank (Rocket)) or as repair barges or minesweepers. Twenty-six of them had armor added, making them LCT(A), Landing Craft Tank (Armored) however, this reduced their load from 4 tanks to 3. If I did my research correctly, the LCT's had a minimum of two 20mm Oerlikon cannons, and the later Mark V versions had 8.
For the benefit of defending the shoreline, you could introduce a couple 3 inch Shore batteries to defend the coastline.
Folks Just my two cents for things that I think would appeal to all, besides that the Game has run a fantastic course..
