AOs ran alot of players off. Before that you could find fights all up and down the front lines, but they wanted to force everyone into 2 or 3 big fights. Which really killed it for the players with slower machines and made it bad with the player limit. It doesn't have anywhere near the number of players it had 4 or 5 years ago.

Some of you guys that haven't played it in a few years should check it out now - it's really improved.

Granted the flight models are a little odd - but they feel ok as long as you're operating within the flight envelope.  It doesn't take anything away from the air war for me.

I really get a kick out of providing CAS - strafing opels, tanks, AT/AAA guns, troops, etc.  It's nice to be able to see the guys that I'm helping out on the ground.

Umm, we gave it a try before the holidays and it hasn't changed any since we left over a year ago.

There used to be BIG tank battles and air battles all along the front lines. AOs did away with that by boxing everyone into 2 or 3 battle areas. Not good with the player limit restriants.

As for flying, your still stuck in a fish bowl. When they cut down on visual range to improve game performance the horizon doesn't exist anymore above 5 or 6k feet. Look straight down and you can see the ground.

Infantry model is stuck in the 80s with the "Doom-like" infantryman. Feels like your infantryman is a stickman running around with a corncob stuck up his butt.

A sure fire way to know how bad they are hurting is that they have closed forums, unlike this game which is well run and designed.

I asked about that compass icon with the pictures of the aircraft in a bilding and they said that picture must be more than 5 years old. It seems somewhat deceiveing to post that old a picture as tho it was from the game of today. After having read the posts and looking at that one example of an ingame picture, I wonder how much truth is being posted. I am curious, how many of you guys have actually played the game in the last few months? I play and it seems a better experience than I am seeing posted. AH satisfies in one way and ww2online does in others. A mod told me that the help forums are open but that the in game forums were closed years ago because many who did not play were greifing. Just was in a big battle last night and I for one had fun. Most likely to each his own.

Ive been playing it since it was released.

It started out as a disaster. The game today is top notch in the ground war and rather arcade-ish in the air war.

Graphics are indeed OLD compared to games out there today but the gameplay is so good it more than makes up for it. The devs are in the final phases of revamping the graphic and terrain engine so many good things will come to the game in the near future.

Personally, I highly recommend it for the infantry and tank warfare. For the air war stay in Aces High.

Can you still flip vehicles over with the Ju87's landing gear?  Used to love flying down the road and flipping Brit trucks over with my gear.

If Doc left I might go back for the ground war. I reckon ww2ol could triple it's subscriber base overnight...

I still see a lot of silly politics going on within the game, the 'commands', and the owners. The forums might be locked down but I still check in on my old ww2ol squad forums (3rd Panzer).

I just started playing it again and deleted my aces high account...The game has improved drastically..As far as the flight model goes htc has some better stuff ,but u really have to fly ur airplane in ww2 online... No combat trim so on so forth..The strategy part is what really got me back over there it is sweet...CAS is a really sweet feature also as cobra already stated..I love strafing infantry... last week I blasted a c-47 loaded with troops he was low enough that he back flopped and skidded to a stop the troops got out and started running in one big group so I dropped a 250 kg bomb right in the middle of em  :lol I think I got 14 kills was fun :aok After 3 years in aces high I just can't play it anymore... Htc gets some strategy or does something diff than just the same old mob flying around aimlessly then I would check it out again...It really comes down to what u enjoy in a game... If u like just furballs and a weak tank arcade then aces is for you... If u like a game were u can do pretty much anything with real types of a strategy setting then ww2 would be for u :aok !!S!! fellas

No, that bug was fixed years ago.

I'm a part-timer in the Allied High Command and the AO's have really improved the game tons in my perspective. Yes, when they were released it was a pissing match because nobody really knew how to work with them and the ruleset for the AO's was still in its infancy.

Today however, the map usually has SEVEN AO's active on each side so you can find lots of action up and down the line. Brigades and Division movement and attack rules as well as supply have been tuned so that it is impossible to have people using endless supply of units until one side tires of it and logs off.

But, above all, the best changes will be coming very soon when the divisions finally get their specialized brigades...infantry and armor brigades, artillery brigades, etc.

The game is not perfect but its very fun. I do not play AH that much because I find WW2OL to have a goal to aim for as a team...because it has TWO sides rather than a furball butterball gangbang arena... and because WW2OL offers a lot more replay value than AH when it comes to the amount of units, terrain and things to do.

AH rules over WW2OL in the air sim portion no doubt whatsoever. But on the ground and dare I say, overall air fun.. ww2ol beats it. There's just no comparison to bringing in a jabo to kill a couple of pesky tanks on an AH airfield ... compared to receiving a call of 'Axis armor column advancing on (town) 3 kliks out we need air support!!' from the ground forces.. flying your bomber in and seeing nearly 50 tanks rolling into a town .. and having human controlled triple-A swarming up from the ground at you... all the while you know there are about 100+ infantry players down there fighting it out that you cant see because you're not flying low enough.

I agree with Trigger and Tac. For ground war WWIIOL is the way to go.  I had incredible fun when I played.  WWIIOL always gave me that sparks to keep coming back everyday, like AH used to do.  Once I upgrade my computer I will probably sign up again, as it was extremely enjoyable to play.  Air war was not that bad and you usually had a goal when you took off.  More of a team game and goal-oriented simulation.  Get with a squad, that is where WWIIOL really comes into play.

Go and give it a look see whenever they do a welcome back soldier deal. It hasn't changed much. FAR fewer players than there used to be and they ahven't put any NEW equipment in. All they do is upgrade variants of the existing stuff.

As for the fourms being locked, they were locked to keep new people from seeing all the players complaining about the problems with the game.
