Anodizer: childish but funny none the less
Ah but you see if a guy is using a knife the first thing he does is get close enough to use it. A gun in your hand at that point is on even ground only if you can use it before the criminal knows you have it. He can then slash your hand or whatever or drop the knife and flee. Pulling the gun and killing the criminal doesnt give him the chance.
I can see a few of the responders in this thread should not carry a gun unless they can gather the will to use it or they will be victims AND be responsible for endangering lives. Thats the cajones I meant.
It was meant to defuse any tension in the discussion..
If it was childish, so be it..
Anyway, the story is total BS and I find it amusing that it's gone this far..
Kicking the crap out the guy and making him submit until the cops get there is
probably a better option legally(I've actually done this but it almost didn't workout in my favor legally. that's another story).. Depending on what state or city you're in and how liberal it is, guns are a sketchy option.. If the guy is a hardened criminal(especially one that's already done some time), he will probably take your gun,
kick your arse, and then shoot you or beat you with it because you even dared pull it out(there are documented instances of this) before you can even make a judgment call..
You make it sound like criminals are stupid.. I can assure you that the ones who are out to straight-up rob you at gun or knife point are not dumb and you probably won't even have a chance to pull your weapon, let alone shoot it at him..
He's more used to the "Kill or be killed" mentality than you are, whether your "cajones" are the size of grapefruits or grapes.. Having big balls doesn't make you smart or agile.. It doesn't give you quicker reaction time or make you stronger.
You will hesitate...Why? Because in the back of your mind, you don't know if this is just some dude tapping on your shoulder because you have a piece of toilet paper stuck to your shoe,
or if he wants your wallet.. These kinds of things don't happen in war zones where you already know the situation and have a heightened sense of awareness.. This is you walking down the street to your favorite restaurant or walking to your car after work.. If you have a hair trigger mentality and are willing to discharge a weapon at the first inclination of what you think is trouble, you don't need to own a gun and really shouldn't be anywhere near them and are better off alive as a statistic (you gave him your wallet, purse, etc. and he went on his way). If you want to carry a gun for protection, I say you should be allowed to carry it where everyone can see it so it will be a deterrent(with proper permits of course)..
Understand, I am absolutely not opposed to guns or the ownership of them.. I have been around fire arms my entire life.. I trained my wife in their use.. We own several fire arms(we shoot regularly) including two crossbows (I'd love to use those on someone trying to break in), two Katanas (not the kind for display and I am also trained in their use),several baseball bats and my old lacrosse stick from university stashed in strategic areas around the house. I'm all about myself, my family, and everyone else NOT being a victim.. I just think the majority of people (including Chalenge) would by disappointed, killed/and or maimed by the out come if this scenario was played out.. Unless you have street smarts, training, or have been through some serious crap in your life to put you in the proper frame of mind to actually take a life or seriously beat someone into the pavement, "cajones" as well as guns are useless in this scenario.. The only way this would work out is if you could read the guys mind, know that his intention is to rob you , and shoot him while he's still 10 feet away. Otherwise, you're gonna pull the gun, he's gonna take it, and you're gonna get hurt..
