Takes 'em a lot longer than 4 minutes to get a warrant..  Also, if you force them to obtain a warrant, you'll guarantee yourself a quite "thorough" search with couch cushions sliced open, dressers pulled out and dumped all over the floor, walls torn down or broken, and possibly items that you own as well as cash end up missing (digital cameras are quite popular with crooked cops these days).  Kinda sucks that you can't win either way...  And if they don't find anything, oh well....  You're dealing with a completely trashed house, and they've got a hilarious story to tell their buddies at the doughnut shop..  Funny how it works when you actually make cops do their jobs, isn't it?
I have a hard time respecting cops these days..  When I come to know them personally and they are actually decent people, that's one thing..
However, I'm sorry to say that most I've come to know enjoy the power they wield way too much and I find myself fortunate to be their friend as opposed to someone else they pull over
or have a run in with..

If the cops are looking for a grow operation, it won't be hiding inside your walls, dresser drawers or the seat cushions on your couch.

Your not being a "jackoff". Its your constitutional right. I'd never let them into my house without a warrant and I am one!

Believe it or not but a Judge wont actually issue a warrant without probable cause. I'd bet you could have told them "no" and you'd never see them again. Either way you were doing nothing wrong so they could all piss off.

You have every right to your rights under the Constitution. If a Police Officer cant understand that then he should be looking for a new job because he's going to end up in trouble and making things harder for the rest of us. Your house is your castle dude.

The extra 4 minutes for them to get a warrant,  and the now, closer and more thorough search they would then perform in my home, wasn't worth the time I had in the day.  Constitutionality aside, it was easier to just let them in and go "Duh! WOW! Nice tank!", than to be a jackoff and say "Take the three minutes for a warrant...I'll make popcorn..." and deal with two hours of BS after the fact.

Life, in my estimation, is all about picking your battles.  That wasn't even close to one of em.

welllll.....the problem with most police these days, is that once they put on that badge, they seem to think they have the blue n red suit on underneath, with a big "S" on the chest.

 not all......but a growing number.

Well thats part of the fun of all wearing a uniform and having a tin star. "One" become "a lot" which become "more", and by the time the 4'th guy on the intardnet reads it, it becomes "most" OTW to becoming "almost all". And if the "almost all" guy has gotten a traffic ticket it hovers on "all of them".

Humans are such simpletons sometimes. Questions? See below.

well...don't mis-interpret me. i say that from my dealings with the somerdale, stratford, laurel springs, cherry hill, and of course philly pd.
i know a seargent in the cherry hill pd, and he says the same thing, about the young hires. in fact, i know quite a few officers that all feel the same way....and i know a few that ARE as i described.

ooooo.....and i was not saying you are one of them....just in case you thought i was.

as for people stereotyping police like that.....i think it was said in another thread, but this one was about the bad guys.......stereotypes exist for a reason.

stereotypes exist for a reason.

And the "reason" is stupidity. Ive known plenty of bitter/unhappy people who like to use stereotypes in a negative way and I just hope I never end up acting like one of them. Sometimes all I do is go from one bad attitude to another, 8 hours a day. Heres exactly what you said Cap and frankly your starting to sound like a bitter old man with a cop obsession.

It reminds me of these bitter old guys I work with that like to put down the young troops all the time. Actually one of the reasons I like working with the young ones is because they are respectful to others and havnt been around long enough to get miserable and bitter.

The day our citizens become fearful to say "no" to the Police for a warrant-less search of their house, when they are themselves are lawful, is the day we have a very serious problem. And the day you'll see me turn in this tin star.

I stereotype in any way. if it's negative, it's not that i chose to use it that way, but rather what was called for. i use stereotypes in positive ways too.....as long as it's what's called for.
i'm not old yet, and definitly not bitter about anything. as i always have, i just simply say things as i see em. that used to get me in a lot of trouble when i was a kid. sometimes it still does. o well......the truth hurts.

as for citizens becoming fearful to say "no" ? some people are becoming that way, and those serious problems you mention are looming on the horizon.

in all honesty, i don't envy you and all the other honest police officers out there. not one bit.

here's an off the wall question though........suppose they passed a law outlawing all handguns? monday morning when you go on duty, you and your partner are given a list of names and addresses. you're told to go to these places and confiscate their weapons. will you?

where is the google that zooms in that close that you can determine plant type?

Pot has a rather distinctive color when seen from the air.

also if in the middle of the corn field of the house youre trying to investigate for growing pot theres a patch of something else growing smack in the middle, that arouses suspicion.

i dont think the pictures are good enough to tell its a pot plant or that its the distinct color, i think its just that a corn field had a hidden patch in the middle.

I have alot of respect for the guys that put on that badge-you  are dealing with alot of people not under the best of circumstances. It is understandable that everyone you meet is a lying scumbag. The lowlifes have way more rights than an honest citizen. You have to take each man on his own merit. Not only we are stereo typing but they do it also.In the late 70's I had long hair, rode a chopper and wore leathers.I got hassled so much although I was just a guy that worked and wasnt doing alot of crime xcept a lil smoke. But yet I got pulled over so much just cause I was a biker even though I wore no colors.
Richyo46 I hpe you can instill respect for eveyone in them young officers and hope they become bitter.I work with 2 ex cops and they both quit as the amount of stuff they put up with on a daily basis just became too much.
been there destroyed that

I won't agree to any warrant-less search of my home by any LEO. I had my home searched once by the DEA with a warrant. They served their warrant and then wouldn't friggen leave.

If the cops are looking for a grow operation, it won't be hiding inside your walls, dresser drawers or the seat cushions on your couch.

A grow operation leads to a storage operation as well, wouldn't you think?  Inside walls, dresser drawers, and seat cushions are by far the
most obvious places to hide drugs, but it's the first place cops will look..  Go figure..  But this is beside the point I was trying to get at and was above and beyond
cops looking for grow operations..

Just a quick question..  Did you understand the context of what I was saying?
I'm not one of those people who are quick to insult..  I'm just asking..
Because what I was trying to get across was the fact that many cops/detectives
abuse their power..

For instance, say your having a party, someone calls the cops because you're being too loud..
Well, you'd think they're just gonna stop by, tell you to keep it down, and that's the end of it..
In today's age, cops have a different mentality..  Anytime there is a gathering of people, police are suspect..  In their mind, there's no way that many people can get together without someone doing something illegal..  Or maybe they're just jealous they're not partying with these hipsters who make 3 or 4 times as much as they do..
They show up (several I'm sure), want to come in, you tell them no..  They have no grounds for searching your house on probable cause
other than a noise complaint..  But you shined them on..  You didn't let them in..  They are pissed..  You can't do this to them!  They are cops!  They go back to
a judge, tell the judge they saw young girls (probably underage), cars coming and going (houses where drugs are sold always have people coming and going), they smelled pot or crack
or what ever else, bla bla bla..
Anything to get the judge to give them a search warrant..
They come back, bust up the party, search the house (whilst completely trashing it), and arrest anyone for any minor arrestable charge they can come up with..
You inconvenienced them.....Now, they are inconveniencing you....

I hope this is more clear now.... :)

Understand, this is not all cops..  Just most of them...  As I said before, I am friends with many cops and my best buddy for 12 years is a Marion Co. Detective (Indianapolis).
I ride with him on occasion..  I see the things I have described first hand...  I see cops being disrespectful and instilling fear in people all the time..  Especially people
who could not possibly resist them..

A grow operation leads to a selling operation. No one grows pot just to store it in their seat cushions, walls or dresser drawers. Any grow operation isn't going to be hiding in those places. The equipment and plants simply take up way to much space. If all their warrant is for is to search for a grow operation, then they have no business knocking holes in walls, dumping dresser drawers or ripping open seat cushions. Only those abusing their power will rip apart a home looking for a grow operation.

Indeed they do. I've told the story of the DEA showing up at my place with a warrant on this board at least twice before. They had a warrant to search my place for a particular woman, they showed me her picture and I told them I'd never seen her before, which was the truth. I let them in and prepare to give them the grand tour of our 24' x 56' mobile home and they see wedding pictures on the wall (with me in the pictures) and ask if those are my wedding pictures. (DUH!!) To make a long story short, it took less than 5 minutes for them to determine the woman they were looking for wasn't here and didn't live here either. Fifty five minutes after they got here I went to get the phone to call the county sheriffs to have these love muffines removed and that's when they finally left.
