Some JG77 intersting facts I shamelessly copied and pasted from motherland's post from our old squad forum. :D

JG77 served on every front from the beginning to the end of the war. The Blitz of Poland, Invasion of Sweden, Invasion of France, the Battle of Britain, the airborne invasion of Crete (an island in southern Greece that was held by the British. Elite German Paratroop units were dropped in from Ju52's), Operation Barbarossa, the North African front, Italy (I actually found a JG77 C.205), and Reichsverteidigung (Reich defense). Some famous names popped up too, Heinz Baer was Gruppekommandeur of I./JG77 for a time. Heinz Baer, of course, scored 221 air-to-air kills, but, more significantly, scored 16 kills in the 262, becoming the second-highest-scoring jet ace of WWII.

I don't get why you even typed that, you know it's stupid.

The JG 53 moniker is even more suggestive.  Also, the "Luftwaffe only" thing is unique to JG 11.  I don't know of any other squads that adhere to that kind of principle so devotedly in the main arena.

Isn't that what one does when going to the movies?

Oh wait.......

That would be picking your seat      :noid

(Sorry for Hijack).

JG77 did not fight in the BoB.

Thinking of some other JG here Gavi?  The 77th most certainly took part in BoB.  They are mentioned in every source out there about the Battle.  You only need to look at their OoB and combat record for the months of the Battle.  I am sure you are thinking of some other Geschwader.  Here is a brief quote from a man who was there:

Comment by Erich Rudorffer, then a Feldwebel with 2./JG2.

"At around 13.00 hrs, another raid commenced when two large and heavily escorted formations, which included elements of Erprobungsgruppe 210, fought their way through the defences to strike yet again at Fighter Command's airfields. In this attack, He111 bombers hit Biggin Hill and Erprobungsgruppe 210 attacked Croydon, while a third group, consisting of Do17s from KG3 with an escort from JG77, detached itself and swung north to attack Hornchurch. Just as the Dorniers arrived over Hornchurch, their first bombs caught three Spitfires of 54Sqn as they began their take-off runs, destroying two and severely damaging the other. Surprisingly, the three pilots involved all survived, albeit with various levels of injuries. Then, in the fourth raid of the day, shortly after 17.30 hrs, while Bf109s roamed on freie Jagd sweeps to the outskirts of London, high flying raiders attacked Hornchurch and caused severe damage at Biggin Hill."

Good luck with squad  Deerhntr.

Interesting.  I had always learned that JG77 has tied down in home defense in Denmark/Germany.  Perhaps the Gruppen were split up?

From http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gliederungen/Jagdgeschwader/JG77-R.htm
Quote
1940

Im April Teilnahme am Unternehmen "Weserübung", der Besetzung Norwegens und Dänemarks mit der II. Gruppe in Kristiansand. Im Mai Frankreichfeldzug: I. Gruppe beim I. Fliegerkorps aus dem Raum Bonn-Siegburg. Ab August Luftoffensive gegen England von Norwegen aus beim X. Fliegerkorps mit Stab, I. und II. Gruppe. Im November Stab und III. Gruppe unter dem Luftgau III im Raum Berlin.

My German is poor, but doesn't this indicate the closest they got was Norway?

Exactly G.  And your quote fails to mention the rest of I /Gruppe 77 which with 49 of their Bf109's was re assigned to Calais, for escort duty during the offensive.

Gotcha.  I learn something new every day. :aok

I try to as well.

I use the Polish RAF squadron records alot G.  The poles kept very accurate less political and detailed accounts, and the flight records of RAF 303 squadron plainly place the Bf109's of I gruppe 4 staffel JG77 over Kent on August 30 and again on Sept 2.  This also corresponds exactly to the Luftwaffe mission orders for said days.  Alot of the old assumptions about the war are overturned daily as more and more records are made available to the general public.
